TheGent (143), , Massachusetts, USA Jul 4, 2009 So glad i found a bottle of this. A reddish brown coloring was topped by a magnificent head in my glass mug. Lots of sweetness comeing off the smell that reminded me of berries or mellon. malty taste with a bit of yeast and just a kiss of bitterness in the end. a dry finish makes me bring the mug back for another sip every three seconds. If you see this, buy it. dalek123 (103), Houston, Texas, USA Jun 29, 2009 Pours reddish brown with an uneven, pillowy, offwhite head. Head is long lasting with good lacing. Taste is caramel, malty upfront with a superb, long lasting dry finish. Drinkable, subtle, and immaculate. Capa (952), Yokosuka, Japan Jun 29, 2009 Pours brick red with a beige head. Looks amazing in the glass. Fruit, sweet malts, some caramel, toasty, some whiskey, oak, and light spicing. Medium, smooth body. Flavor is full of spices, caramel, toasty malts, dark fruits, alcohol, and light roasted malts. Finish is somewhat bitter with alcohol noticeable. Very drinkable even at 6.3%. Fantastic. yesyouam (587), Fairport, New York, USA Jun 26, 2009 Fuller’s 1845 is a pretty clear, reddish brown ale with a dense, yellow elastic head that has great retention and lacing. The aroma is slightly sweet with funky malt and cave-like smells, fresh grain and chocolate. It’s quite full bodied and very smooth with a crisp, dry finish. It has an excellently balanced taste. The flavors are very fused. There’s a touch of roast and a lot of malt that’s not really sweet nor dry. Dried fruit, like prune, is apparent. The aftertaste is slightly bitter with wood resin and juniper. What a classic! unclemike (834), Ft. Riley, Kansas, USA Jun 26, 2009 Pours deep red/brown with a nice, very slowly diminishing tan head. Sweet aroma of malt, fruity with notes of caramel and goldings. Medium bodied, with a roasty taste of caramel malt and dark fruits, leaving a long lasting, sweet and bitter aftertaste. Medium bodied, with little carbonation.

Aroma:Caramel malt with grass, dark fruits and a hint of citrus.
Flavor:Caramel, dark fruits, a hint of smoke and a decidedly floral, bitter finish.

Overall:Really enjoyed this. Was surprised with the complexity of the flavor.
fidelis83 (707), Clinton, Iowa, USA Jun 24, 2009 Pours a clear mahogany, with a 3 finger chunky, tan head that has great retention. Aroma is caramel, planty hops, fresh grain, cereal grain, fresh red apple, sweet grass, straw, dark fruit, pitted fruit (notably nectarine), a little toast, a hint of citrus potpouri, and lots of earth notes. Flavor is grainy malt, grass, planty hops, dark caramel, some raisin, randomly wooded campfire smoke, sweet tobacco, burnt orange peel, spicy/planty hops, cinnamon, green maple wood, and floral hints. Finsih is bitter hops, roast, light pine, woody and light earthy notes. Palate is medium body and dry from entry through finish with a lighly bubbled, yet sharp carbonation. Really a fantastic beer that (tin my experience, at this point) deserves it’s throne atop the "English Strong Ale" ladder. Great stuff. joshwilfong (769), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Jun 22, 2009 medium to dark red with large white head. moderately low carbonation nose of dark crystal malts. flavor starts with mild hop bitterness followed by a noticeable hop flavor then some upper lovibond crystal malts that give it a raison-like flavor, some residual sugar provide some sweetness and depth and some fruity esters. a great beer, not sure what style you would call it, not hoppy enough for a bitter and not malty enough for a barley wine
