marcus (980), Sacramento, California, USA Jul 6, 2008 This pale ale poured with a foamy off-white head that lasted a while. There is a strong malt aroma and a full-bodied creamy malt flavor with a peppery finish. Very balance and tasty.
porterhouse (922), Alna, Maine, USA Aug 29, 2008 (500 ml bottle (best before 10/9/09) via trade with IrishBoy, thanks Richard!) Pours coppery, medium-dark amber, looks fairly clear. Four big fingers of fairly sturdy biscuit head. Aroma is malt-dominated - egg, vanilla and milk caramel. Mouthfeel is fairly beefy and smooth. Only a tiny bit of prickliness. Flavor is malty in the fore - caramel, vanilla and light egg followed by a bitterness that tingles the tongue and builds toward finish providing a nice hoppy bitter bite in the finish. Nicely hopped beer. Pretty similar profile to the ESB but not quite as bold. Another nice straightforward beer from this brewery. MrAleman (35), guildford, Surrey, England Aug 29, 2008 Strong alcohol content obviously! Nice tasting beer this one. Not too heavy to drink either and a solid beer from Fullers. rds (85), USA Aug 29, 2008 A clear amber body wth a thick tan head, ths ale has a very smooth, balanced deeply complex flavor with some subtle spice notes. ucusty (1016), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Aug 28, 2008 Bottle from Grape & gourmet in Va beach, Va. Copper pour with thick white head. Spicy hops aroma. Similar flavor with some caramel malts to balance the bitter JCB (1001), Durham, North Carolina, USA Aug 27, 2008 500ml from Rodman’s, D.C. A younger cousin of the Fullers Vintage is my basic impression of this one. A full bodied amber pour, the nose is big and spicy with some lush caramel malts in there as well. Very nice smooth palate, with mellow malts, not too sweet at all.
