Aroma – Rich malt aroma with a hint of hops.
Appearance – Amber in color, Clear with a Nice fluffy head.
Flavor – A good easy drinking beer the malts and hops where light in flavor.
Palate – Nice Mouthfeel, good texture with a dry finish.
Overall – A decent Strong English beer this was needing more hops and to be even more bitter this was a tad under the radar as being real good. Maybe a lot better off the keg.

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Jul 6, 2003 Bottled. Deep amber colour with plenty of conditioning on this fellow. Quite rustic looking. Big bottle to finish the night off with, thank god for Mr. Laidaw, taking half off me. At 6.3% it would have been a long way to the bottom of this final beer. It had been a big day for Pete, he taken his first jump from a plane this day, then assault with a hot Pakistani Curry and 6 different sorts of beer. I think he was chuffed. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 2, 2005 500 ml bottle conditioned, trade with maeib. Orange to brown colour, decent peachy to beige head. As I’ve had many British ales with excellent aroma lately, I kind of expected the 1845 to be equally good. It’s not, but that doesn’t mean the aroma is bad either. Moderate fruitcake and caramel aroma on a hoppy background. Flavour is malty with some spices and decent hops, but not VERY complex. The ABV is evident, but alcohol does not dominate the flavour. Hoppy bitterness in the aftertaste. A decent beer, but not the best I’ve had. Walt (2289), Chicago, Illinois, USA
