Nose of caramel, hay and lemon candies. Medium body with a sharp carb tang. Taste is caramel and raisin then bitter and grassy; a little sticky. Well made but not so complex. daboskabouter (1470), Fergus, Ontario, Canada
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Sep 20, 2004 Slightly hazed ruby red appearance with a nice frothy off-white head. The nose is fresh and fruity with hints of raisin. Malt seeps through in front of a subdued English hoppiness. Very nice aroma indeed. The body is immediately malt, thick and juicy with just the right amount of sweetness. A perfect blend of malt and hops, wherein the hops can’t seem to be distinguishable away from the malt. Long, fruity, bitter-sweet strong ale. Very, very good. IPFreely (1470), Lewiston, New York, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Dec 18, 2004 Chestnut color, frothy tan head. Full aroma of caramel, nuts, raisins, toasty malt, and cake. Nice flavor, finishes with some spicy hops. Extremely drinkable, full, but smooth and soft palate. I could drink this all day. joeycapps (1466), Waterdown, Ontario, Canada
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 17, 2004 Dark amber. Soft, finger of light beige foam. Excellent lace. Toasty, chocolately aroma w/ a spritzy orange fruitiness. Thick, buttery feel. Toasty flavour of chocolate, caramel, licorice, & molasses. Some burnt spiciness & a very dry finish. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 13, 2007 50cl bottle from systembolaget. Clear dark, redish amber with a medium off-white head that leaves a nice layer of foam after a few minutes. Yeasty, malty, and fruity aroma has a nice dustiness and citrus from the hops. This is thicker than I thought. Very full with gentle carbonation and slight stickyness. flavor is lots of sweet caramel malt with fruity notes all over, partially due to the citrus added by the hops. Very rich. firm hop character leads to a dry and bitter citrus peel finish; a stark change from the initial sweetness. Love the complexity. Love that Fullers yeast in there too; anchors the range nicely. Dixen (1465), Flagstaff, Arizona, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 2, 2004 Dark brown to reddish body, with a good looking off-white head on top.
Lots of fruits and malts in the nose, the aroma is kind of ’dark’.
The flavor is very nice, big malts with a touch of alcohol, and then a good shot of hops to balance the taste. I would call this beer Fullers Vintage 1999 Light, cause basically the vintage is just a souped up 1845, but its nice... Jokes (1453), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 22, 2002 A nice red beer with a frothy white head. Aroma is of fresh wheat and sweet popcorn. A nice crispness comes from the hops, which are perhaps a bit overpowering. Nevertheless, this one easy drinking beer.
