Apricots, hops, honey and crackers in the nose. Salty. Peppery. Full bodied. Nicely balanced. Some walnuts showing up. The alcohol is rather pleasant. Wonderful finish with a hint of smoke, aniseed and heather. A great beer.

1 pt. 2.6 fl. oz. (Best before: 19 OCT 2005, sampled 4 DEC 2004): hazed copper, with a modest tan foam that leaves sticky lacing all over the pint glass…Sticky alcohol aroma; noticeable sugar coated raisins, toasted grain, mild black pepper, burnt sugar and wet hop flowers. Nicely carbonated as evidenced by the tingling across the tongue and the very retentive cream. Slightly (surprising for me) spicy palate, with flavours ranging from a nicely striking bitterness up front to the long dry finish full of toffee, mashed red apples, hints of orange zest, and sticky honey. This one has breadth and depth. A great range of hop and malt flavour and a depth and complexity few can boast. Wouldn’t it be nice to have this one out of a beer engine?

500 ML bottle. All malts in this one, with nary a hop making an appearance. Incredible toffee aroma. Lots of bitterness.

From a bottle. Delicious looking dark amber color with a thick white head. Strong malt aroma with some spiciness. Great malt flavor with a dried fruit finish. Dates and prunes. Good mouthfeel caps off this top-notch beer.

Pours a beautiful amber with tight, foamy two finger cream colored head that persists. The nose is rich with caramel, malt, and a doughy influence. Flavor is malty and a bit spicy, with some dried fruit subtly peeking through. The finish is a bit earthy, yet clean and dry.

Very nice. Strong but not overpowering fruity aroma, reddish-brown with very impressive head retention. Caramel, nutty, malty flavor in the beginning with a pleasant fruity, hoppy finish. I’ll be buying this one again later.

Had this beer on 8/25/1998. Color is a hazy red with good carbonation and nice head. Aroma is a sweet malt scent. Taste is rich and slightly bitter. starts with a medium body that goes down with a rich feel. Finish is a very sweet malt flavor baked by a light hop bitterness. Its a nisce tasty beer.
