| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 3, 2003 Another great ale from Fullers. Excellent fruity aroma. Flavor walks a very fine line between malt sweetness and hop bitterness. One of the best balanced brews out there. Most beers that attempt to achieve balance fail. This ale succeeds massively. guzzler67 (1285), Hanover, Maryland, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 6, 2009 Average size tan head atop a garnet body that leaves nice lacing. Aroma of soft fruit, bready malts and yeast. Earthy taste, some sweetness, mild nuttiness, but well balanced by fragrant, floral hops. Very smooth mouthfeel, gently carbonated, with a dry, long lasting finish. Complex, but extremely drinkable. GRM (1280), Aylmer, Quebec, Canada

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 2, 2005 Classic strong ale from one of England’s consistently great brewers. It poured a ruby colour with a decent tan head. Good lacing around the glass. The nose is big and wine-like, with faint notes of lemon sherbet and dark chocolate. The palate is creamy, medium-bodied. The dominant flavours are chocolate and licorice. In fact, this reminds me of a British candy called Victory Vs - the black licorice ones. Wow, I’m having a real Proustian moment here - suddenly I’m 12 again. Haven’t seen those candies for years. No idea if they still exist. Huge toasted malt flavours before a fairly fierce, tart finish. Very smooth until that puckering bitter finish. A remarkable ale but I favour the ESB and London Pride. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 7, 2002 Tasted to me a slightly reigned in version of the vintage ales. Great nutty maltiness without being sweet in the finish. Hops are there in the background, but the malt is definitely the star here and how it shines...
