Bottle. Pours a hazy, deep amber/light brown with an off-white head. Aroma is hops at first, but soon develops malty notes which take over. Faint notes of plastic and coffee (!) at first as well, but disappears as it warms. Flavour is malty with a hoppy bitterness in the background. Notes of bread. Metallic and fruity notes as it warms. Malty and bitter finish with notes of roasted sunflower seeds which fade as it warms however, giving way for notes of apple. Crackers as well, I believe. Not bad, but nothing special. Could use more on the hop side. 23-10-08.

Dark amber color with a small, light-tan head. Enticing malty nose that hints at sweet caramel, fruits with a slight touch of earthiness. The flavor starts sweet — breads, caramel, nuts — until the hop flavor punches through with a tasty bitterness. Medium body, smooth feel. Fairly long, dry and bitter finish. Very enjoyable.

Earthy caramel nose. Deep ruby hue. Sticky off white head. Light malts first, caramel, earthy, medium bodied, crisp and lingering bitter finish. Very nice, very drinkable, and perfectly well rounded brew. Highly recommended.

16.9 oz bottle from.. well, I don’t remember. Pours a deep dark very hazy brownish dark amber color. Big tan bubbly head that is sticking around fairly prominently. Aromas are malty, sweet breads and caramel, very english with a wee touch of chocolatey creaminess with a touch of hoppy bitterness on the back end and a hint of booze. Initial is very malty with a strong bitterness on the back end. Biscuity malts with some sweetness mixed well with the bittering and notes of bitter chocolate mixed in. Very "cakey", as if a bakery put one in the bottle.Very strong malt profile balanced well with the very strong bittering hops. Alcohol is fairly apparent, even if it is only 6.3%. A very interesting beer indeed! Cheers for #200!

Amber pour with a thin, soapy white head. Aroma of malt and some mild Goldings. Flavor is mild and malty: sweet, subtle pale malts. Lightly bitter finish. Nice.

Mahogany colour. Thick off-white head. Wonderful woody aroma with some malty caramel. Quite sugary. Taste woody as well, with a silky touch and a long finish.

(500 ml bottle (best before 10/9/09) via trade with IrishBoy, thanks Richard!) Pours coppery, medium-dark amber, looks fairly clear. Four big fingers of fairly sturdy biscuit head. Aroma is malt-dominated - egg, vanilla and milk caramel. Mouthfeel is fairly beefy and smooth. Only a tiny bit of prickliness. Flavor is malty in the fore - caramel, vanilla and light egg followed by a bitterness that tingles the tongue and builds toward finish providing a nice hoppy bitter bite in the finish. Nicely hopped beer. Pretty similar profile to the ESB but not quite as bold. Another nice straightforward beer from this brewery.

Poured dark amber with an offwhite head that left a lacing on the glass. Clear malty aroma. Taste is somewhere between a scottish ale and an esb--strong bitter hop kick in the beginning but leveling out into a smooth malty finish. Very drinkable.
