Pours a deep, clear, auburn with a loose, frothy, beige head that leaves behind wispy lace. The nose is quite nice:cocoa powder, toffee, dark fruit, light licorice, sweet spice, faint nuttiness, and a hint of earthy hops in the background. Medium-bodied and silky smooth on the tongue, it finishes with a lingering toasty and bitter finish. The flavor is a nice toasted malt front with notes of brown sugar, raisins, toffee, a blend of spices that make me think of white pepper mixed with nutmeg and a nice, moderately bitter finish of earthy hops. There’s a bit of "warmth" coming from this beer that made me surprised to see the ABV at only 6.3%. While it’s not "hot", it is definitely a beer worthy of a cool fall night. (Unfortunately, it’s not that cool yet.) My first English Strong Ale, I enjoyed this brew quite a bit, and I now feel compelled to search out other examples of the style.

Nice amber colour with a slightly off white head. A combination of earthy hops aroma, baked apples, nutmeg and cinnemon. Full bodied, with lots of different flavors ranging from sweet malt, to red grape, to butter, and perhaps just the slightest hint of coffee. All of the richness of this beer is well balanced by some nice bittering hops. Well done! Thanks radiomgb!

Amber orange in colour with slight off-white head. Yeasty, bready, malty, winey aroma with a similar flavour. Also tasted butterscotch. Fairly harsh.

Aaaahhh, finally a bottle of Fuller’s I am completely satisfied with, and nothing beats a bottle-conditioned beer. Poured into a pint glass (bottle, 19/10/05), cool and not cold. Deep garnet-amber body, the clarity of honey, with a big dense, creamy off-white head that left an abundance of lace down the glass as I sipped (possibly the most appealing pint of beer I have seen). Aroma of dried of fruits, resinous earthy hops, cocoa powder and dark chocolate, quite spicy and dry. Similarly dry and spicy in the mouth, quite homely, warming and malty . Head gets in the way of tasting it and added a creamy edge to the reasonably smooth mouth feel. Medium bodied and light in carbonation, it had a little noticeable yeast and alcohol spice that added to the complex balanced malty palate. Smoky grain, burnt sugars, brine ?, milk chocolate and a light amount of butterscotch (nothing detrimental) added to some otherwise undefinable characters of this lovely beer. A nice drop.

Bottle. Clear amber colour with large frothy off-white mostly lasting head. Fruity aroma with roasted malt. Sweet flavor with caramel notes. Oily palate. Score 3,8 Cask at Fullers Brewery. Even better than the bottled version. Maybe 1845 cask. schould have it´s own page.

Crushed with Jakebra. Damn, smells almost like a sour ale with a bunch of nuts added. Great flavor with a very yeasty, nutty finish. An incredibly original and complex brew. Really dug it.
