Great flavor with a very yeasty, nutty finish. An incredibly original and complex brew. Really dug it. robforbes (1112), Bremerton, Washington, USA

Comes in the great chunky Fuller's brown bottle..as always a simple but great label.
This is a wonderful beer to look at,dark chestnut brown , when first poured a large slightly off-white head..that shrinks but always leaves a nice lace covering.
LOvelly fresh chocolaty roasted malts..I detect some pleasant alcohol too..its pretty nice..some yeast.
An exeptional tasteing brew .. the malts appear first but are not too sweet..smooth and dark chocolaty..later theres a buttery buiscuity taste then some nice alcohol warmth in the throat, to go with the surfacing hops!
Very comfortable in the mouth not over bearing.
A very very drinkable ale..nice stuff.
I have become a real fan of bottle conditioned beers and Fuller's does them best Andrew196 (1091), Katy, Texas, USA

Kind of musty actually, but more of warm not moist or damp must. Smooth with currants on the taste, bitter and hoppy on the finish. AleDrinker (1090), Sunnyvale, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 16, 2004 Initially pours big off white head but disappears quickly. Gorgeous deep red/brown color. Complex malty aroma, all about spices. This beer is all about the malt. Full bodied, finish is bitter and the hops come through and linger on the tongue at the end.
