Pours out a rich, amber color. Tan colored, huge, long-lasting head that slowly fades to a rich lace, and a creamy layer of bubbles. Aromas right away of cherry brandy, peaches, kiwi fruit, strawberries, and apricots. This stuff is a veritable fruit bowl in a bottle. Serving size - 18.6 oz. brown bottle. Rich maltiness to it, with fruity esters galore. On the sweet side to me. Surprizing hops bite at the finish of it. Goes down smoothly. Well balanced, superbly crafted English ale. Hard to find in my area, but worth the hunt. All in all, a really good example of brewing.

500 ml bottle from LCBO, served cold in a tulip glass.

App.: Clear, deep copper with an orange-tan head Aroma: Marmalade on rye bread – lots of deep grapefruity, citrusy hops with some piney notes, lots of caramel, toffee and dark rye bread crust; some dark dried fruits and warm spices come through as it warms; delicious. Palate: Medium-full body, medium but somewhat sharp and fine effervescence. Flav.: Much like the nose – plenty of juicy, grapefruit/pine hops, dark rye bread crust, burnt sugar, some caramel/toffee; some warm spices, dried fruits and ginger as it warms; a little off-dry with a solid bitter finish.

Lovely stuff.

Tasted again Nov. 06/08.
500 ml bottle from LCBO, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. 2008 “edition”.

App.: Clear deep copper with a fair tight tan head. Aroma: Lots of fruits – cherries, tree fruits, dried fruits, molasses, licorice, quite sweet, brown sugar, a little alcohol, a touch of wood. Palate: Medium+ body, soft carbonation, smooth. Flav.: More brown sugar, deep caramel and toffee and less fruit than the nose, still some molasses and slightly minty herbal notes, a bit of earthy hops; a little sweet with some bitterness; leaves a light burnt sugar finish.

Still nice stuff.

I cannot do this one justice with words, so I will para phrase Gusler, With whom I agree on this one: Deep garnet color, Creamy, beige head. ’Start is malt sweet, the middle is medium to full, the finish is ’Hop heaven’, dry, acidic and moderate carbonation tops off this ’Most Excellent’ strong English Ale.’

Tan tending to vibrant caramel. Textbook strong ale nose; deep malty notes with some complexity. Great flavour and mouthfeel; not as heavy as the bouquet would suggest. Malt flavours are very classy and again show good complexity. Roasted and chocolate notes drive the palate. Very good.

Bottle conditioned makes the opening a skill so the bottle does not froth over......pours a light copper color with a pebbley light tan cap. Medium-light effervescence. Aroma is unique...very understated but is predominated by a spicey, smoked oak-fruity aroma. Front is very smooth with a good malt presence punctuated by its smokey-oak nutty sweetness balanced with the piney hops that become more prominent in the finish as the malts drop away and the piney hops become slightly bitter....long lingering metallic after taste. This is a very well put together ale...nicely balanced complexity...care and effort have been taken in the production and ingredients....and it shows.

Bottle, courtesy blankboy. Pours a clear copper color, with a big fluffy white head. Looks like a comfy pillow. Lacing clings to the glass. Chocolate in the aroma, with a bit of caramel-malt. Peach? Apple? Interesting. A rich malty body, with raisin and a spicy finish. Thin-bodied, refreshing and drinkable, but nothing overly impressive.

3-5-08 bottle (small 4 oz. sample)
Semi-translucent brown maroon with okay head. Hoppy and sweet alcohol aroma - not heavy or over the top - actually pretty decent. Flavor is like a quick weakened version of other Strong Ales I’ve tried. Pretty good malty flavor with nice caramel notes in there. Very drinkable. Creamy and silky smooth on the palate. Alcohol is more noticeable than I want in a 6.3% beer - but not bad overall.

"Poured a ruby-brown color with a normal head that didn’t last long. Fullers is on a roll with me. Poured a dark orange color. Big head and lacing that lasted throughout the beer. Sweet flavor with a hint of hops perfect combonation. Ver nice beer. "
