This is one to be savoured. The balance is Just how I like it, not too much hoppy bitterness and plenty of malt. So overall a perfectly balanced ale with dry, fruity finish. I must put one away and let I develop fully.... ultraspank (866), Dublin, Ohio, USA
| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Apr 13, 2002 Had a pint bottle of this at The Old Bag of Nails in Upper Arlington. This brew pours a ruddy orange. The titanic off white rocky head has amazing lacing. The head that ate Ohio was still occupying the space 3/4 the way up the pint glass when I downed my last gulp - outstanding! The moderate nose is balanced and complex with herb, spice, and flower, combined with spruce and earth. Some cask wood was also evident. The flavor is sweet, warm, spicy with a toasty quality and a long rich and bitter finish. The medium to full body is creamy, dry and smooth with a light alcoholic and astringent finish. A very nice prelude to my Fish and Chips dinner. RobBestwick (555), Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England

| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Mar 22, 2004 Opitmy of balance. Pours a conservative head and not so lacey, but fine for the style. Nose is subdued a bit, but grains and bits of choco prevail. This ones all about the taste. Butter yeast, with hint of grain up front. Deep fruit combined with a woodsy-earth flavor. Just a hint of hop for snap and balance. This is a fine brew, very drinkable because there is so much depth to this brew. Chocolate, prunes, butter and wood does not send this all over the map but brings together one of the most well-balanced ales around.

From the almost lacy head to the rich, deep reddish hue. The balance between the flavors, hops and malt is exquisite. I love this brew. bigred7 (44), Sarcoxie, Missouri, USA
