(bottle) Amber colour with yeast particles and a beige, medium-sized foamy head. Sweet and toasted malty aroma with caramel, subtle fruity notes (elderberries) and a touch of woody and spicy hops. Bitter and slightly sweet flavour, full bodied with a smooth carbonation. Toasty malt-character with caramel, licorice and subtle fruity notes, backed by spicy and woody hops.. Almost dry, slightly burnt bitter and sweet finish with gentle woody hoppy notes. Extremely rounded and flavourful strong Ale (22.II.09).

500 ml botle bought at Systembolaget, Luleå, Sweden. Lots of roasted malts. Very nice aroma; cereal and christmas pudding. Very long and lively aftertaste, with the taste of the roasted malts and the bitter-hops lingering in the mouth.

500ml bottle conditioned ale bought at the great St Albans Beer Festival 2005 (going back there this year). The beer has a deep mahogany colour topped with a medium lasting off-white, thick head. Inviting sweet aroma of caramel malt. Full bodied. Rich flavours of dried fruit, hops and roasted malt. Solid bitterness in a lingering aftertaste. Very tasty after more than nine months in the cellar.

Bottle. Smells strongly of toast malt with chocolate and faint yeast. Rich, deep amber pour with lively carbonation and a full, large, thick, lacing, immobile tan head – one of the prettier beers of the year. Taste: toast and a gentle fruitiness that really tacks on the bonus points, coffee, chocolate, caramel, dark earthiness, light yeastiness, light wood, nuts. Classy, restrained bitterness and a firm mouthfeel, but not overly crisp. Full dry body, hearty undercurrents of flavor, tons of malt. Touch of warming from the otherwise undetectable alcohol. Could probably drink a keg of this stuff. Long, dry aftertaste contains light bitterness and all the best notes of caramel, toast, earthy chocolate, etc. Light hops in the finish, but they’re slight. Balanced, rounded, complex, refined…simply lovely, simply world class!

Bottle. Pours an amber body with a 2 finger creamy off white head. Lots of fruit and spices. Caramel malt, lightly bitter. Light etoh orange and cherry. Everything coming together in a great balance. Great!

Pours brick red with a beige head. Looks amazing in the glass. Fruit, sweet malts, some caramel, toasty, some whiskey, oak, and light spicing. Medium, smooth body. Flavor is full of spices, caramel, toasty malts, dark fruits, alcohol, and light roasted malts. Finish is somewhat bitter with alcohol noticeable. Very drinkable even at 6.3%. Fantastic.

A great big fruitcake of a beer. One of my all time favourites. Looks great in the glass, leaving nice lacing as it drains (all too quickly). A fruity aroma invites a taste, which brings toffee, coffee, raisins, and flavourful earthy hops. The beer won’t let you forget it either, with a long lingering bitter finish, and a whiff of smoke right at the end.
