Aroma and flavor is of warm bread, with some nuttiness and fruit coming through, finishing with a nice long, dry, roasty taste/feel. Highly recommended. ravidesai (915), Bombay, India

Subtle hops and very nicely balanced with fruity malt and spice flavors. Despite bottle-conditioning and above average ABV, freshness is crucial with this one. A fresh bottle is exquisite. I’ve had some older bottles that were lackluster.

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Dec 26, 2004 bottle...garnet pour with a thin white head. Malty, fruity aroma. Raisins, some alcohol, cardamom. Roasty malt to start, leading to some sweetness and fruitiness in the middle. The end is very nice with some hoppiness and a lasting choco-type roastiness. This is a very nice beer, rivals Lake Placid Ubu, in my mind as a very good English Strong Ale. Thanks to my Secret Santa for this treat! BrockLanders (750), Panama City, Florida, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 29, 2005 Bottle from Coal Train’s in CO Springs. Pours a deep reddish-amber with a nice beige head that dissipates slowly. Nice malty nose...fruity...caramelish..with just enough of a hop note to keep things right. Taste is all about the malts...toasty, and some light fruitiness, maybe a buttery edge too. My favorite Fullers ale to be certain. Nice bitterness in the end. I could drink this anytime. turbo (1254), Arizona, USA

Good easy drinking hopy flavor with a roasty hops finish.
I took a long time with this beer and enjoyed it more as it warmed and the roast earthy flavor became more pronounced Swalden28 (1512), McKinney, Texas, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 4, 2008 Bottle. Pours a dark, semi translucent amber color with nice semi thick head with good retention. Aroma of dark roast, hops, with very slight floral, slight apple. Flavow VERY nice. Strong roast malt and maple flavor with great balanced hop bitterness to off set sweetness, and almost taste as if it was in a bourbon oak cask, but it says bottle conditioned on the label, I swear I taste wood tannins though with slight bourbon.. has slight alcohole spiceMedium carbonation with medium-full body. Great beer!, one to enjoy.
