Deep garnet in color, the head is creamy and beige, the lace covers the glass well. Nose is malt, caramel, slightly sweet. Start is malt sweet, the middle is medium to full, the finish is ’Hop heaven’, dry, acidic and moderate carbonation tops off this ’Most Excellent’ strong English Ale.

Wonderfully balanced with sweet maltiness and fruitcake aromas. It has a rich and full palate with a almost bitter sweet finish. This is not the type of beer that you can have anytime but it goes well at the end of a meal with dried fruits and cheese.

shared pint bottle with mate: delicious rich and malty aroma. Seems like there are spices in there as well nutmeg maybe. pours beautiful dark brown just like a trappist ale. flavors are rich and malty, with spices. Nice dry finish, with a lovely taste that just lingers in your mouth. medium heavy mouthfeel. Great brew!

Bottle. Clear amber colour with large frothy off-white mostly lasting head. Fruity aroma with roasted malt. Sweet flavor with caramel notes. Oily palate. Score 3,8 Cask at Fullers Brewery. Even better than the bottled version. Maybe 1845 cask. schould have it´s own page.

I tried this beer on November 2, 2007 after purchasing from my local LCBO outlet. The beer poured a translucent reddish brown colour with a generous tan coloured head which dissipated into little foam islands on the top of the beer. The aroma is malty with some hints of fruit tones and cloves. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, with a little carbonation, and some bitterness. The flavour is mainly malty, a little licorice, and a little bitterness.

Thanks to ekstedt & friends. Copper with an offwhite head. Malty fudge aroma. Bitter with an even more bitter aftertaste. Somewhat dry mouthfeel. Light carbonation.

Bottle. Another winner from Fuller’s! Pours a lovely golden copper with an off-white head that lasts well. Nose is packed with notes of toffee, rum, golden syrup, banana and malt. Very smooth mouthfeel with flavours of caramel, brown sugar, malt as well as a very nice bitterness that blends very well with the sweeter notes, although the beer isn’t as sweet as it sounds. Very nice indeed.
