Caramel is in full effect in the nose. Not thick, but bubbly. Has some raisins maybe at the beginning. A nice consistent graininess flavor throughout. Really a nice ale. I was a bit dissopointed by the first, the second however was marvellous.
Certainly had a warming effect, was nice and smooth and just a hint of alcohol could be tasted, in addition there were earthy, nutty flavours. An excellent beer.
Subsequently re-tasted, it is a superb brew, my favourite from Fuller's, although I haven't tried the Vintage Ales.
A great English Strong Ale. haddon90 (1036), Alexandria, Virginia, USA

Some malt and hops as well. Smooth, with a hoppy bite at the end of the taste. Some dry hopping might have been used. Very full as well. A good beer in my opinion. jzzbassman (846), New Albany, Mississippi, USA

Described by Roger Protz as ’a rich beer with a fruit cake aroma, spices and nutmeg from malt and hops resulting in a dry, fruity finish’. Wish I could buy this in Alberta. There is so much flavour in this bottle...how do they manage it?? A big complex brew, but well balanced despite the high ABV. Truly a fine ale..not one for a session tho...unless you’ve got the next few days off!!
