Commercial Description:
Cask; Regular.
First brewed in 1969 as Winter Bitter - renamed Extra Special Bitter in 1971.
Ingredients: Pale Ale and Crystal malts; Target, Challenger, Northdown and Goldings hops. Dry hopped in the brewery.
CAMRA Supreme Champion 1978, 1981 and 1985.
Brewed at 5.5% ABV in cask and 5.9% ABV in bottle, ESB is a true liquid legend, and should be savoured as such.
ESB has a wonderful rich mahogany appearance. Taking in the nose, the beer is bursting with cherry and orange, balanced by soft malty toffee and caramel notes. The flavour delivers everything you would expect from such a full-bodied ale. The unique blend of Northdown, Target, Challenger and Goldings hops imparts grassy, peppery notes on the tongue along with intense citrus fruit characters of grapefruits, oranges and lemons. The blend of Pale Ale and Crystal malts in the brew give a biscuity, toffee element to the beer. A smooth, mellow bitterness lingers on the palate to give a superbly satisfying finish.

NOTE: Most Fuller's beer in the US is served by handpump kegs and not a cask. Ask your server.

Cask @ The Churchill Arms, Kensington, London.
Pours golden with a small, bubbly, off-white head. Aroma is softly fruity, quite dry and with good caramel behind it all. Fine mouthfeel, low carbonation - perhaps it is a bit on the thin side? Flavour is wonderful, though, text-book example. Lovely dry, crisp, light berry notes, good toffee and a super chewy feel.

Deep copper brown colour with a small, quickly vanishing head. Strong hoppy smell. Taste is dominated by hoppy bitterness but has also some roasty sweet malty elements and a hint of caramel and fruits. Quite long aftertaste. Update 4.6.2008: (Real Ale) Quite round mouthfeel maybe due the low carbonation. Notes of berries too. Aftertaste has also a bit of toffee. Omg this is good.

Cask. Can´t say anything about the aroma since it is still alowed to smoke at Charlies.......too bad. Fine fine bitterness, too me it is not a full-bodied ale, more like a medium body, good soft carbonation.

From cask at Charlies. Pours clear and golden orange to brown with a bubbly white head. Mild spiced and malty aroma. Flavour is light spiced, mild hoppy and towards dry. Finish is mild malty and a subtle spiced.

Cask at Akkurat, Stockholm. Amber colour. Resiny piney hops up front. Shows off the trademark Fuller’s dense, rounded and solid malt character, but resiny hops still domintes. Throughout a well balanced, flavourful beer with marked piney bitterness.
