Commercial Description:
Pasteurised bottle.
Goldings hops and Golden Promise malt.
At 8.5% ABV, Golden Pride guarantees a superb range of flavours, that is sure to satisfy even the most discerning of palates. Our brewers describe Golden Pride thus: ’ deep amber in appearance, Golden Pride is full bodied, of moderate bitterness, moderately hopped and rich in malt. Full flavoured, and reminiscent of sweet orange oil, toasted grains, and bread. Rich malty aromas lead to a similarly styled palate, with an intense finish. Sweet and bitter flavours are expressed in good balance in this weighty brew.’ Or as the late Michael Jackson, beer writer and connoisseur, put it: ’the Cognac of beers’.

50cl bottle, as shown. Pours a beautiful mahogany with a medium-sized, creamy off-white head with decent retention and plenty of lacing. Aroma is of dried fruit: raisins, some orange peel, plus caramel. Medium carbonation and a thick, creamy and oily mouth feel that, at 8.5 % abv, should surprise no one. A full-bodied strong ale, as I’ve come to expect from Fuller’s. Taste is of sweet roasted malt, toffee, stewed dark berries, with a lot of herbal spices adding to the complexity of this brew - again with a freshening note of orange peel. Malty, full, medium dry finish and gripping, slightly boozy after taste. Very similar to the much more expensive "Vintage Ale", which seems logical if that beer is indeed based on Golden Pride (same abv, to begin with). Unlike the "Vintage" variety, it’s pasteurized. As with all the strong ales and premium esbs from Fuller’s, this one is beautifully balanced, with the strong alcohol well integrated into the intricate fabric of aromas. Sweetness and malty bitterness complement each other brilliantly, If you’re searching for the perfect "fireside brew", look no further.

Copper-colored, the foam is a bit dirty white. Aroma was rather inviting, malt toffee, apricot, nuts. The relatively high alcohol content of 8.5%, passed through a bit in the flavor. The beer is sweet, body was quite full. Bitterness is pretty high on the beer.

(bottle) Hazy, copper-ish amber colour with a beige and dense foamy head. Sweet and strong Bock-like cara-malty aroma with notes of caramel, subtle fruity notes and almost ethereally spices. Sweet flavour with a balancing bitterness, full bodied with a calm carbonation. Robust (cara-)malty, slightly toasted base with caramel/toffee, liquorice, subtle fruity elements and again almost ethereally spicy notes; sweet and slightly bitter malt-accented, delicately toasted finish with an inoffensive, but very present alcoholic burn in the warming sense. A hearty, very flavourful brew. 28.IX.09

Aroma: smells strongly of alcohol, hints of raisins, dried fruit and yeast. Appearance: Rich tawny hue, head dissipated quite quickly Flavour: Full on sweet fruitiness followed by a malty, treacley body with a slightly syrupy mouthfeel, finishes with a distinct alcoholic kick, lingering warmth and sweetness. Palate: Would have preferred a little more range and complexity, the bitterness and the hops are definitely outweighed by the sweetness and alcohol, nevertheless, delicious, if a little hard to drink in large quantities (probably a good thing due to the ABV!). Overall impression: A very enjoyable, powerfully flavoured beer, will definitely buy again!

KI=7

Dark coppery colored with medium sized yellow head. Raisinny and vinous aroma with chocolate and thin spices, mild warming alcohol also comes up. Medium to full bodied, smooth palated. Flavor starts with same raisin-chocolate combination, aftertaste gets vinous with mild alcohol, drying hops and lemon. Fine brew.

Bottle. Pours beautiful golden copper with an off white head that leaves lots of lacing. Nose is very mild but you can detect notes of toffee, brown sugar and a hint of whisky. Flavour is quite similar to the aroma with aded malt, butter, honey and a little woodiness. Mouthfeel is very smooth and creamy and those are excellent words to describe this beer, as well as outstanding, beautiful and delicious.
