A very sweet nose on this one. Lots of brown sugar like a barley wine but has some raisin fruitiness.
Flavour is quite complex. Initially sweet, along with some raisin. Sweetness is balanced mid way with a good bitterness. A very mouth filling beer, and there is a bit of spiciness right near the finish which is long and bitter.
This is like a very drinkable barley wine. It would be interesting to try this freshly brewed, so the hops can flourish more. Egon (399), Gothenburg, Sweden

A bit heavy. gastronaut (6), Sweden does not count | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jun 6, 2009 Pours a dark amber with a respectable head that settles rather rapidly.Very light, malty flavour. Complex malt flavour with quite a lot of sweetness and some fruity esters. Alcohol warmth, raher low bitterness, good mouth feel. A well crafted beer but not my cup of tea. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 1, 2009 A nose of chewing gum and green apple. The beer pours a dark reddish color, not so much foam. Taste is apples, toffee, butter and alcohol. It’s reminiscent of both Old Tom and Nils Oscar Barley Wine, in a way. The beer is a good sipper, but I’ve had better. Steely (175), , Sweden
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 28, 2009 Dark brown color with thick tan head. Sweet fruity aroma of dried apricots, plums and toffee. Heavy flavor with lots of fruit and toffee sweetness. Thick syrupy mouthfeel. A cognac-like feeling to this reminds me of the Thomas Hardy Ale. austone (1039), Turku; Pori, Finland
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | May 28, 2009 Bottled. Dark amber, firm beige head. Plain sweet toffee aroma, hint of hops, vanilla and warming alcohol. Flavor has sweetish toffee, little berries and banana fruitiness, alcohol shows even more, solid hops in the sugary finish. Medium to full bodied, a bit sticky lush palate. Utterly simple, but still pleasing enough strong ale. ako (154), Turku, Finland

Amber, little head. Strong malty aroma, even whisky-like with the alcohol. Not too sweet, strong malty flavor, some caramel. Slightly bitter in the finish. Easy to drink considering the ABV.
