On cask at bar Volo. Pours copper to amber with a thick creamy head. The nose is floral, with a touch of herbs, lots of bright fruits, mild biscuit and a touch of vinegar. Tastes of apricots, little bready, some grassy undertones, sweet and caramel tones. A touch of whiskey. It’s a heavy mouthfeel. Nice and thick, a little chewy, full bodied, and the alcohol isn’t too brash. Very balanced in the cask.

Cask, Gravity at Banbury Beer Festival, Oxon, 08-05-09 Pours deep amber maybe even chesnut in colour. Rich and malty aroma but also a little boozy. The taste follows the aroma perfectly, but this had a surprisingly bitter aftertaste, the sweetness which is always there is totally counterbalanced by the bitterness, great stuff. Cask stillage at the White Horse Parsons Green. This is a rare beer to see on cask - or bottled for that matter. The name is misleading, it is dark ruby rather than golden. Ripe fruit and berries, Vinous. Blackcurrants, rowan berries. A little oxidized, but not unpleasantly so. One of the best from Fullers, it should be more available.

Half pint from cask served in a brandy glass at The White Horse, Parsons Green in London. Deep red-brown body. Missing head. Sweet cherry-like aroma. A full bodied ale with dried and dark fruits and a rounded bitter aftertaste with a warming alcohol tingle. According to the Fullers advertisement this beer has been called “The Cognac of Beers” by Michael Jackson (rip) and it is certainly a solid drink in every aspect (18.03.2008).

(Cask at White Horse, Parson’s Green, London, 29 Nov 2009) Reddish amber colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with notes of dried fruit, caramel, toffee, orange peel and treacle. Malty taste with caramel, toffee and orange peel. Malty, sweet finish with a vinous and warming touch of alcohol. Full body, fairly sweet. Nice one, more complex than the bottled version.

Cask Conditioned at Ealing Beer on Broadway Festival, 2006. Ruby red. Fruity, malt and alcoholic aroma. Sweet malty taste, yeasty and alcohol warmth, dark fruits and a bit of apple, perhaps some caramel and some balancing bitterness in the background. Very good.

Cask, Derby Winter Fest 09. Dark gold with an off-white head. Aromas are malty with toffee and chocolate. Sweet raisins and grapefruit with yeast. Flavours are smooth chocolate and toffee with spices, pine and grapefruit. Smooth and thick on the palate with warming alcohol. As good as the bottle version.
