The nose is buttery with notes of caramel, toffee, tropical fruit and dates. The flavor pretty much mirrors the aroma. Well-balanced for an IPA... even a touch on the malty side. Medium-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and pillow-soft carbonation. Short, bone-dry finish. mkobes (2104), paramus, New Jersey, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 10, 2004 Bottle. Deep copper in color with a slight white head. Hoppy and malty. Very good. Well balanced. Caramel in the aroma. Some bitterness. Good. heemer77 (4303), Savannah, Missouri, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 29, 2004 Bottle. Smells like oranges, caramel ad nutmeg. Has a dark copper color with a little bit of scum for head. Light taste of moss, soy sauce, pine and some oak. An ok IPA that has a decent mat balance. Like other British IPA’s I have had, it is too light with the hops. egajdzis (3625), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 19, 2004 Poured a copper color with essentially no head. Caramel, diactyl, some hops as well in the aroma. Watery bitterness, some caramel but this was a strange IPA. Weak initially, the bitterness hits your mouth, and it ends with a sweet finish. Not my idea of an IPA. Wakie (612), Centreville, Virginia, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 17, 2004 A kind, pleasant IPA that was more malt than hops. A bit of caramel in the finish made this, in my opinion, an excellent IPA. jde123 (715), Washington, Washington DC, USA

Mmmm, great taste, very smooth and silky going down. A good IPA, somewhat better than I have had before, becuase the aftertaste isn’t quite as sharp and biting. Good stuff! For one, I love West Coast IPA’s. Aroma is of rich malty soap (good thing it doesn’t taste that bad). Head went away pretty quick but I have come accustomed to that from most English beers. I may be going out on a limb here, but I would venture to say Fullers has been making IPA longer than any existing brewery. I can easily see hammering home a 6’er of this. tresero (1), USA does not count | 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 5/5 | 4/10 | 5/5 | 7/20 | Apr 18, 2004 This is not really an IPA is it? NO hop aroma, no hop bitterness.
It is a good Brown Ale.
