Avg.-sized, off-white head. Diminishes almost fully. Some visible carbonation. Molasses and bread pudding come through in the flavor. Not as rich and flavorful as your average american IPA or English bitter (i.e. Fullers ESB). Pretty good, however; makes for a decent session beer. Relatively easy drinking brew with good flavor and complexity. Falconseye8 (525), Cartersville, Georgia, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 23, 2003 This is a very nice IPA. Not as citrusy as I prefer but very nice. Not huge bitter but subtle presense very drinkable. Bitter Toffee flavor near end of bottle. I like it!!! Drew (2409), Kent, Ohio, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 23, 2003 Poured orange and clear, quickly diminishing head, some lacing. Malts were bready and thicker than I thought. Hops were soft, round, full and warming, especially at the sides and back. A fine, more traditional version of IPA. Honey, caramel and light hops nose. Taste is same with mild bitterness. Very light body and short toffee aftertaste. Whats the deal with British IPAs? I love the Goldings in the profile, but the alcohol contents are too low and hopping more characteristic of bitter/pale ale than IPA. Their ESB has a much higher alcohol content for pete sake (5.9% vs 4.8%). Fuller dudes, IPA is supposed to have higher gravity, abv and hops than ESB. That was why the IPA beers made it in better condition to India in the first place. This beer is a great pale ale. It is not a great IPA. EricTheRed (81), Plainfield, Illinois, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 16, 2003 Body the color of brass, a tight white head, and moderate carbonation. Aroma of caramel, flowers, and some funky veggies. A full-flavored ale with light malt sweetness and medium bitterness. Flowery, bitter aftertaste. This beer gives you instant bad breath. evinal (48), Mattapoisett, Massachusetts, USA

Malt aroma and flavor. medium body. malt characteristics seem a little overwhelming to the mild bitter and short finish. VA Homebrewer (525), Portsmouth, Virginia, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jul 25, 2003 Medium amber with no head on the pour. Aroma is a strange mix of earthy hops, anise, dough and mold. Yes, mold. Flavor is tons of dough competing with the anise to determine which flavor will come out on top. These two completely overwhelm any hop characteristics in the flavor profile. Finish is mild and forgetable.
