This is probably one of the few true IPA’s brewed to the older standards. It wasn’t all bad, but not one of Fuller’s best in my oppinion. grant (792), Colorado Springs, CO, Colorado, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Dec 30, 2002 Definitely different than what most of us Americans have come to expect in an IPA. Aroma is smooth creamy malts, with a prominent aluminum (OK, aluminium because it IS a British beer) odor. Flavor is a mirror of the aroma, with little added. I realize that English IPAs are not supposed to be as hopped, but for crying out loud, I could hardly taste any! Maybe I’ve become desensitized to hops. I think I would score it a touch higher were it in a different category. I was disappointed, given that I’d just tried Fuller’s superb London Porter. Uglyradio (776), Greenville, South Carolina, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 29, 2002 Pours a clear copper color with a small white head. The aroma is mostly malt with just a hint of hops present. Medium bodied and malty sweet up front, the hop taste kicks in shortly after taking a drink, and the finish is a fight between the bitterness of the hops and the sweetness of the malts. In the end, the hops win, but not by much. This is a very enjoyable English IPA, smooth with lots of flavor and highly drinkable. rmalloy (195), los angeles, California, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 10/20 | Dec 23, 2002 Decent. More malty than most IPA’s. Still quite hoppy. I didn’t particularly enjoy this, but I’m not particularly fond of IPA’s. This beer was well-crafted though. belgianhomebrew (646), Acworth, Georgia, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 13, 2002 Sweet malt aroma. Malt throughout with a touch of bitterness. Definitely the way an English IPA should be. WISEGUY572 (1246), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 27, 2002 Surprising how odd an English IPA now tastes, after Hop Devil and Stone and DogFish. No orange and pine tar, none of the smell of a good dish detergent ... just European hops and sweet malt. A pleasant enough, good looking beer. I just think I have come to prefer Hop Devil and DogFish Head 90 minute. DaSilky1 (2021), San Diego, California, USA
