Caramel malt aroma blends nicely with mild but firm piney, flowery hop aroma. Full clean, malty and bready with a hint of fruit and nuts. Tinny, astringent hops cut the malt richness, appropriately. Nicely bitter with a balance not found in American IPA/APA styles, I believe. To me this is an elixir. One of the foremost styles of beer-making in its cleanest and most fundamental form. beerguy101 (3929), Newark, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 6, 2002 Medium gold color, large head. Slightly malty aroma. A mildly malty and not very hoppy IPA. This is a British style IPA so the hops are very subdued. Tastes are mild. There is a little bit of a floral flavor in the taste. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. Ernest (4489), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 6, 2002 Head is initially small, fizzy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is clear medium amber. Aroma is moderately malty (toasted light bread, cookie, caramel), moderately hoppy (flowers, herbs), with notes of orange and honey. Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately bitter, moderately acidic. Finish is moderately bitter, moderately acidic. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Very toasty malt makes the aroma very enticing. Rather citric, but slightly less so than most. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 1, 2002 Clear amber with a off white smallish head. Hop sack and caramel aroma. Not realy heavy. Let this one warm a touch to truly enjoy. Malty and moderately hop by some of the american IPA. Very balanced, one thing many examples miss. jaymobrown (1356), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 27, 2002 Light orange color with a dash of red. Moderate head that quickly diminshes. I pretty much agree with the consensus here. Smooth and thin, with a bitter end. The malts are noticable. I prefer more hops, especially at the end. A decent IPA that would go well with a steak or burger. Allseeingeye (223), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 22, 2002 I didn’t know they made an IPA. Golden red color. Medium head with mild tats of lace. Starts sweet with some caramel and extre mild fruit flavors. Perfect CO2, but alittle watery. Could use more hops on the finish ’to be critical’. Nice. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Oct 15, 2002 Deep orange, almost clear, smallish fast-dying head, good lacing; aroma very malty for an IPA, oh I forgot it ENGLISH. Lots of caramel there. Also lots in the flavor, but hops do come in at the middle and increase towards the end. Seems somewhat watery at the finish also. Good, all in all, but not great as I expected. austinpowers (2828), New York, New York, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Oct 15, 2002 Very tasty. Odd that I liked this more than some others - I’m not a hophead at all. It smells a tad like apples to me and is very easy to gulp in dangerous quantities. English, not an American IPA. Very good.
