Fruity like a pale ale with nice malty character, just needs a little kick. slinkymello (137), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 4, 2002 aroma and flavor slightly reminiscent of an english strong... malty aroma, sort of banana/mango/fruity... malt and hops surprisingly balanced, which, as everyone has mentioned, isn’t really what one expects when drinking an india pale ale... i need my hops kicking my ass at all times... hops gradually make themselves known, but never really dominate... the malt is surprisingly prevalent; fruity and slightly floral... the finish leaves something to be desired KingPinHead (390), Des Moines, Washington, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 29, 2002 Good malt/hop balance in aroma...Color is whisky with a healthy honeycombed head---nice ringed lace...This has a fine layering of flavors: a well-judged hop top-end accompanied by both sweet and roastier malts and harmonized levels of carbonation---finish is medium-dry with a pleasant hop bloom. This has good body and mouthfeel. Overall, this is one of the most flavorful of English IPAs...This has excellent balance and an assortment of well-blended flavors. The familiar Fuller quality is in full display here. uglybastard (101), Riverside, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 27, 2002 Sweet, hard-candy like smell. Head disappears to nothing. Hoppy initial bite. Caramel candy, bruised fruit, perhaps, like flavors. Also I think i detect a bit of cinnamon in the mouth as well. Good beer. Very interesting the difference between the american version and the more original version. SpaceMonkey (182), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 25, 2002 There’s a very mellow smell to this, more like an ESB type aroma, a caramelized sugar type whiff with just a hint of hops. Pouring absolutely clear with a reddish pink golden color, a white foam laces lazily down the glass. This hits you with a very smooth malt flavor right off the bat, then gently descends into a restrained hopped of finish. There really is no aftertaste. This is probably the easiest drinking IPAs I’ve ever had. Despite being so well crafted, my personal tastes lean towards a bigger hop aroma and taste. Nate (2558), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Aug 25, 2002 Nice nose - floral/fruity hops. A bit sweet. Amber yellow, clear, with small flat head. Little lacing. Medium body, smooth light carb. Very hoppy and a bit sweet - big bittering. A very good IPA. Racegoer (338), Somewhere Out There, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 14, 2002 Once again a London IPA is less hoppy than an American one, I prefer the Good Old USA when it comes to IPAs. Needs more hops to get me going. Fullers has better offering than this, like their Vintage Ales Kodos (200), USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 4, 2002 Deep golden color, almost no carbonation. Light toasted bread with a bit of floral in the nose. Malty, reminds me of an Oktoberfest strangely enough. Bitter with an easy finish. MUCH less hophead appeal in this one than the usual American version.
