It’s well balanced with bitter, sweet, and hops. It has a fresh palate even from the bottle. Quite drinkable. Sregnar35 (732), Rotterdam, New York, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 14, 2005 Pours cloudy, tawny gold with medium off-white head that laces well. Nose is caramel with a hint of soapiness. The flavor is excellent, creamy malts with flavors of tres leches cake, sweet biscuit, candied dates, slightly stale bread. Ends with mild bitter flavor. Underrated beer. Joeh (1908), Buckinghamshire, England
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | May 24, 2005 Bottle. Tea coloured. Aroma is sweet, caramelised malt and not a lot else. Flavour is one dimensional with the typical Fullers house character, sweet malt and a little bit of sourness. Tastes boiled. In many ways it is similar to the cask version I ‘enjoyed’ a few weeks ago, but is actually a little better. Not bad, not good either. RAYBOY01 (1868), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 13, 2005 Extremely drinkable, if not remarkable brew. The English IPA’s always surprise me by how mild they are (having been completely ruined by our American counterparts which blow me out of the water with ever higher and higher IBU’s, much to my enjoyment) But this is certainly an enjoyable drink...malty sweetness, meaning caramel and toffee, nicely balanced at the end with a mere hint of hoppiness. 16.9 oz bottle best before 14 / Nov / 03
Pours out hazy, lazy orangy brown, with light carbonation and a thick creamy, beige head. head settles to a 1" layer and just sits there. Thick sheet of lace left as I drink the brew.
Malty aroma is heavy on the toffee, medium caramel, some nuttieness, and a little toastiness. Very little hops are detected in the aroma.
Flavor is roasty, caramel with just a touch of citrusy hops (ripe ruby red grapefruit). and a little sugar.
a little metalic quality was noted in the finish.
Overall I think it has held up well for a beer supposedly (almost) 16 months past it’s prime. I know I couldn’t drink a BMC that old. lol
I’m giving it higher marks based on the agebility of this sample. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 18, 2005 Copper colored with aroma of malt, toffee, almonds, cabernet, some hops. Tastes very caramel malty with subdued hops. Essences of caramel, toffee, and brown sugar in the finish. I’m not sure how Fuller’s IPA ends up being categorized as an ESB here, but I like it whatever you want to call it. screigh (263), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Feb 2, 2005 Poured a hazy straw color. No head to speak of and zero lacing. Not at all what I was expecting. With the IPA name on it I expected to smell hops when I opened the bottle but nothing. Aromoa is of malt. The flavor is very subdued. Not much there but a little carmel malt taste on the finish. I get no hops in this at all . While I like it, it wasn’t what I expected. American IPAs are much better.
