Commercial Description:
Cask; Seasonal - Winter and Spring.
Smooth and satisfying, this example of an historic style of beer derives its rich, chocolatey character from a blend of Brown and Chocolate malts in the brew. Its notable coffee notes and creamy finish make it a wonderful accompaniment to many sweet foods – especially chocolate pudding. 5.4% ABV.

NOTE: Most Fuller's beer in the US is served by handpump kegs and not a cask. Ask your server.

Cask at Akkurat, Stockholm. Black. Buttery malty nose. Sweetish with rounded mouthfeel. Soft and lightly roasty. Mostly bold and butterscotchy, salty finish. Possibly one of the best 1000 porters in the UK.

Very dark, almost black color with a creamy tan head. Malty with tones of coffee, chocolate and butterscotch. Medium to full body with a loong beitter finish.

Drank this from a keg at the Bishops Arms in Umeå in northern Sweden just as the long winter is rolling in - the perfect moment for a porter! Appearence - dark brown, almost ink black, with a creamy tan head that followed me all the way down to the bottom of the pint glass. Aroma - Wow!!! Huge nose of roasted coffee, chocolate, treacle and butter. Flavour - Masses of raisins, dark fruits overlaid with chocolate, butter and expresso coffee. A slight ash/burnt aftertaste, dry and crisp, with a residual burnt sugar taste. Palate - luxurious and sensual (steady on). Creamy and smooth with low carbonation. Overall - If this is really what they drank in London in the early nineteenth century then I was born a hundred years too late!

I’m not a fan of the bottle version but as a cask-man I was eager to try it on cask. Being a naïve Canadian I thought this popular beer would be available on cask everywhere. Wrong! I only came across it on my last day in London. I think it was at the Hung Drawn And Quatered, one of the most beautiful London pub (not on ratebeer because it’s a Fuller’s pub with a limited beer selection). Brown-black body with a small tan head. Body was thinner but the taste was less molasses/sticky than the bottle. Rich roasted malt flavour with slightly bitter dark chocolate and some black liquorice. Very well balanced. In a way lighter than the bottle but better and easier to drink. Ah England, come for the beer, leave for the food.

Aroma is chocolate and roasted malts. Taste is similar with some grassyness coming through, finding it a bit thin and unintresting really, maybe grainy also.

Cask @ Charlie’s Bar, Copenhagen. Pours a black colour with a small off-white head. Fruity roasted malty aroma with some hints of chocolate. Roasted malty flavor with lots of chocolate and coffee. Roasted malty finish with some fruitieness.
