It was a surprise when I realized I hadn’t rated either the cask or the canned version of this. The explanation is probably that I’ve never liked it. Therefore I was equally surprised when the canned version was really attractive and hoppy. Upon sampling the cask version I quickly remembered why I’ve kept myself from drinking it since long before I’ve joined Ratebeer. It comes out clear amber. Smells insipid of boiled vegetables and ash. It’s sweetish with light body and some syrup. Finishes wih some vague saltiness. Just boring and insipid. detroitsteel (233), Greater London, England
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 7, 2007 Never was a beer more aptly named. Nice creamy head, scarlet brown body, strong lacing on the glass, bags of hops, a touch of sweetness and a creamy finish (oo-er Missus etc). Landlords who keep this in good condition are rewarded with a very decent pint. If it was a footballer it would be the first name on the team sheet. A dependable regular. lagomswedish (213), Umeå, Sweden

This one sits somewhere in the middle. Creamy toffee malt, marmalade orange and a delicate hop finish. Less bitter than bitters I’m used too in the South East of England, but a solid session ale. Generally overated in my opinion Max1972 (10), England

I lovely aroma dn taste make this (for me) an already special bitter. Don’t bother with the bottles though, stick to the cask. larsga (2980), Oslo, Norway
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 5, 2006 Thin coarse white head rises into a little mound above the rim of the glass. Light brown body. Light, acidic aroma. Light, delicately balanced acidic and bitter taste, nutty and resiny, very harmonic. Lightly dry finish. Smooth, low on taste, easy to drink, and generally very well made. Excellent session beer. (0.5pt on cask.) lordhumungus (14), Australia

Delicate hop flavour as with the malt is subtle yet persistent. Appearance is amber with copper tones. Fruit notes up front with nutty wood finish. A gem of West London. berkshirejohn (1831), Bracknell, Berkshire, England

It poured a nice amber hue with no head. A malty aroma whihc seemed light mld bread. flavorwas almost cedary at first but did have some sweet mlat notes almost like dried fruits. Some hops but the wood notes seemed to overpower all of the other flavors.
