Oh what has happened to this once great beer? Not in good condition, but every time I try it, it seems to dissopoint more. Gone is the once complex hop characture, the fruity Fullers house characture and the crisp freshness that I used to enjoy so much 20 odd years ago. Now a very ordinary, mass produced, even slightly unpleasant national brand. 1.5 REERATE! I’ve just been forced into a Fullers pub after the Boxmoor beer fest ran dry! Ended up having a major session and I have to admit it was much better this time. Still not as good as it was back in the 80s but fresh and very quaffable. 2.8. EHSRanders (1121), Randers C, Denmark

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 26, 2008 [on draught at Bel and the Dragon, Cookham] I had this beer on draught a few years ago - it made me feel very queasy and put me off ever trying it again - although my friends all enjoyed it at the time. However, after having recently greatly enjoying the bottled version, I thought I’d give the draught another go.
On the plus side, it didn’t make me feel queasy this time. However, I was greatly disappointed, for this tastes nothing like the excellent bottled version - in fact, with a different ABV and a different flavour, I think that Fuller’s are rather cheeky to sell it under the same name. It’s just a standard best bitter; dusky red fruit and straw flavours dominate, although it is rather sweeter than some of the genre, making it very easy to drink. It also feels rather thin and watery - not a criticism that can be levelled against the bottled version.
Compared against other best bitters, this is a solid performer, and a good session beer. However, compared against the bottled version it’s a weak imitation. couchand (182), Iowa City, Iowa, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 5, 2008 A pint pulled at The White Buck Inn, Burley, Hampshire. Poured a deep golden colour with a medium white head. A floral hoppy aroma. Has that distinctive Fullers flavour but not quite as intense as the bottled version (which I am more used to). Still a very drinkable pint and not too sweet. Keeps the taste buds working, always looking for more.
