500mL Bottle. Typical English Amber/Brown Beer. Medium body, slightly malty for its style, with a distinct hop arrangement and taste. Each time I try this I seem to really enjoy - a lot different to NZ beer.

clear amber, quickly dissipating white head, respectable acing. mildly fruity nose, malty notes. flavor is malty with dry fruit notes, touch of hopiiness. medium bodied, dry finish. pretty fun to drink, but probably not sessionable for me. single bottle from binnys beverage depot in opland park.

Pours a deep copper with a dissipating white head. Very finely carbonated. Aroma is almost all fruit. Cherries, grapes, prunes. Very sweet and chewy. Medium heavy body. Taste is of sweet malt with a slighty nutty finish. I’m a firm believer that malt should be the most pronounced character in beer. Hops and adjuncts should play second fiddle. No need to add fruit to a beer when the right blend of malt produces the right combination. That said, this really needs a bit more bitterness.

Colour is a wonderful clear shade of copper. There was a thin white head, but in the time it took to load this page it seems to have wandered off somewhere. Nose is fainter than it possibly ought to be. There is some yeastiness there, and some very faint malts, but there is not really enough hops for the style I think. Flavour is very much the same, at first it is mostly malts, toffee and caramel. In the finish there is some bitterness, kinda resiny or piney. It is pretty flat,, even for an ESB.

Bottle, 500ml. Pours translucent marmalade, with no head, and little lacing. Nothing much of an aroma, but quite pleasant on the palate, with sweet malts, hops and yeast prevalent. Slightly underwhelmed by it, and would assume that the cask is a superior animal.

Sabor amargo e persistente, com bastante malte, e sabor chegando ao chocolate. Encorpada e cremosa.

Draught. Poured dark copper colour, with aromas of floral hops. Bitter hop flavours linger on a long finish. A well rounded beer, that I would definitely try again.

Bottle from Tesco. Dark amber colour with thin film of white head. Malt aroma with hints of herbal hop. Intensely bitter taste (too bitter, perhaps). Finish is chemical and unpleasant. This is a beer that thrives on its mystifyingly high reputation. The cask is far superior.
