fullers (5), Toronto, Canada does not count Jul 13, 2008 Mt First Rating: Cask, The Dove, Hammersmith. Light amber colour, smallish head. Familiar London water taste. Somewhat thinner than I remembered. Eminently drinkable, gone very quickly.
Extraneous comments. I waited in order that I could start my ratings with this beer.
Canadian mainstream beer - particularly Export Ale - had put me off beer drinking altogether. My interest in beer only started when I first tasted this beer at a pub close to where I was living in Chiswick, not far from the brewery, some thirty years ago
The first pint was a revelation and sparked an interest in beer that lasted for my three years in London, that lasted, in fact, until I returned to Canada.
A trip to Belgium this spring revived the interest, and this summer trip to England has provided the opportunity to sample English beers.
The original goal was to sample one new beer every day of my stay, trying a few beer styles unique to Britain as opportunities arose, and drinking local brews to the largest extent possible.
In the event, I tasted over fifty beers during my three week stay. Some memorable, many less so. The following ratings form a sort of diary of my progress through England. CQC (223), Sydney, Australia Jul 13, 2008 Updated: Jul 16, 2008Great. Strangely watery compared to the many times I’ve drunk it (without rating). Maybe the keg, who knows. Was expecting more.
Will drink again. jmw141 (134), Canton, Illinois, USA Jul 12, 2008 1 pt. bottle pour. Bottled on date 11/27/07. So, this one was a little old. Poured an amber-orange with a creamy head. Aroma of malt and bread. Light flowery hops. Moderate sweetness followed by moderate bitterness. Light to medium body, dry, watery, and flat. Was flat probably because of the sell by date. I’ll re-rate when I can get my hands on a fresh one. DrnkMcDermott (1831), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA Jul 11, 2008 Half-liter bottle, Best Before 8 Sep 08. Nice coppery pour from the bottle, thin layer of white foam. Nice English hop bitter smell. Taste shows a pretty substantial malt profile; not too sweet, but hearty with a bit of caramel (never cared for toffee). Earthy and peppery English hops. Seems to be more effervescent than the ESB. Very likable and easy drinking. BeerGestapo (725), Windsor, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 11, 2008 (England) Another fine brew from Fullers. Pours a nice amber color with a sm- white head. The aroma is of almonds and toffee . The taste has a nice malty flavor with a slight bitter finish. But i must say this is very refreshing and easy to drink. TheCaptain (526), Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 7, 2008 Dark amber beer with off white head. Slight aroma of roasted nut and caramel. When this rich mix hits the pallet wow what a great flavor. Bought a case of this for a 4th party and just an awesome beer, smooth and pleasant drinker. moseslikesbeer (183), conestoga, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 6, 2008 bottlle from the Captain, thanks Mark. Good brew! nice dark amber color. Aroma of chocolate, caramel, coffee. Kind of robust for an English bitter and I must say I like it. Very smooth and highly drinkable. Not real thrilled with the Palate on this one/leaves behind a chalky finish in the mouth that lingers a little too long. That being my only complaint about this beer. GJF (480), Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA Jul 3, 2008 Updated: Jul 9, 2008On tap at the Sanctuary. I’m less and less inclined to go for British ales these days, but this one really holds up. A classic bitter, rich and nicely balanced.
