illidurit (851), Santa Cruz, California, USA Mar 29, 2008 16 oz. can poured into a nonic. Orange-copper color with a beige, two-finger head. Retention is excellent, but not much lacing is left behind.
Aroma is bursting with English malt notes. Bread, cookies, and a dark fruitiness.
Taste is just about all malt. The notes echo those of the aroma, but there’s a distinct bread crust note in the finish with some tannic hop bitterness. Very English, a bit understated but well-balanced.
Mouthfeel is a bit low on carbonation. Creamy and smooth with high drinkability. wacohoover (100), Garland, Texas, USA Mar 28, 2008 Good brew, bitter flavor, slight maltiness, but not very pronounced. I Feels fairly bold in my mouth, and as it hits the back of my throat I can really taste some fruitiness and flowers. I like this beer. Better in cask though. porterhouse (1148), Alna, Maine, USA Mar 28, 2008 (330 ml bottle (best before 6/12/08) from <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/massachusetts/westborough/julio’s-liquors/461.htm target=blank>Julio’s Liquors) Pours clear amber with three fingers of biscuit head that settles to a rocky cap. Aroma is mostly malty (egg, vanilla, caramel, maybe pumpkin) with some light piney hops. Mouthfeel is medium-full, fairly smooth, but quite prickly. Lots of heavy thick lacing. Flavor is quite bitter upfront - contrasting with Fuller’s ESB which is quite malt-forward. Bitterness overlays a rather weak malt profile - malt never really emerges even as it warms. Rather weak egg/vanilla/caramel taste. Bitterness continues on through finish and leaves a bit of an aftertaste. To me not on par with the ESB. GG (1612), NorCal, California, USA Mar 27, 2008 Perhaps the subtleness of this beer is missed on my palate. Either that or this is just a so-so beer. I’m betting on the so-so part. Highly drinkable would probably be the best thing about the beer. Aroma had some sick-fruity sweetness to it that I’d probably rather avoid, caramel, malts and shortbread cookies. Where’s the hops? Appearance is a clear orange color, nice head with minimal retention and lacing. Flavor of light fruit, flowers, sweet malts, and lightly toasted bread. I couldn’t detect anything that resembled hops that I know of. I’m going to find another bottle to see if this was a bid on the old side of things. dogfish120love (250), west hartford, Connecticut, USA Mar 26, 2008 a decent brew only had it a few times but well worth the try. a decent malty hop mix. RedSox2004 (353), Pacific Palisades, California, USA Mar 25, 2008 reddish amber with a generous head that left nice lacing. Very subtle aromas of bread and dried bananas. Hard to describe the flavors - slightly sweet, buttery, biscuits, tea? Mouthfeel is a bit thin, not much carbonation. Somehow I expected more from this beer, but it didn’t live up to expectations. Daithi8640862 (24), Dublin, Ireland Mar 25, 2008 I really love this beer from a bottle. there is a variety of hop flavours on the palate that i just cannot distinguish them but the balance is excellent..leaves a nice roasty aftertaste Ramenen (453), San Salvador, El Salvador Mar 23, 2008 Thanks to Guayo Palomo. Classic, conservative, well rounded pale ale. Very well balanced between malts and hops, and really easy to drink
