Dozens of this brew have passed through my kidneys. Not as impressive as the 1845 but I like this light nutty crisp beer. Page 178 of Michael Jackson’s Great Beer Guide and only 401 out 500 Classic Brews to go.

Bottle. Pours a clear burnt orange. Soft aromas of cookie dough and toffee. A malty cookie and a touch of sticky butter followed by a solid hop flavor. Smooth easy drinking all the way. Would love to try the draught.

Hand-drawn Draught. Nose is very sweet malts. Pours dark amber with no head (hand-drawn, though). Palate is extremely smooth with a bitter hop finish. Very well-balanced. Hop and malt flavors are accentuated by a clean creamy palate.

Bottle. Light, balanced aroma of malt and hops with a nice dose of funk and sweaty socks. Dark fruitiness. Clear amber gradient with a creamy beige head. Medium bitterness with caramel and a lot of malt, mild-medium carbonation with that characteristic mild hoppy funk. Bittersweet doughy malt on a medium-full body. Touch of sour malt and leather. Long, dry, bitterish aftertaste. Relatively complex and a nice session.

This rating isn’t the most accurate because I drank this beer at my friends house the other night. So i’m not able to sit here and makes notes as I drink it. But I do remember it had a malty aroma, which reflected the taste aswell. And a good solid head on it’s clear amber shoulders. A tasty beverage all around and one I would certainly buy again.

Bottle, pours clear light to medium amber gold with a few bubbles, light malt fragrance, faint musky-off smell (odd for a pale ale), little sweet notes, faint sour on the nose, faint malt taste, watery on the tongue, little hop bite and faint sourness in the mouth, I was expecting more from this, I have a feeling something bad happened to this beer on the trip over the water, this was dissapointing.

Canned. Clear amber, rich head. Rich hop aroma with flowers and hay. Sweet and light bodied. Some light cookie malt overpowered by the hops. Lightly resiny finish with medium bitterness.

12oz bottle. Nice head, nice copper/redish color. Way better on draft, but nice basic Pale Ale. It’s pasteurised when bottled, a dissapointment.A complete meld of hops + malt resulting in a great session beer. These can be pounded, not what I normally do. The ESB is their flagship, try it.
