Draft, poured a light amber with a medium sized head and nice lacing. Sweet aroma and a malty caramel, slight hop bitterness in the taste. Overall, not what I was expecting, but a decent beer.

Original Rating, March 23, 2003: Nice and amber, no real head. Heavy on the apple and hops. A wonderful bitter. 7/4/7/4/17 Re-rating, April 1, 2009: Sigh... one of my very first ratings. And so pathetic. I will always leave my original ratings to serve as an example of how not to do this stuff. Copper color with a medium head. Solid aroma of grain and grass. Very dry, clean malt flavor. Grainy. Moderately bitter, focusing on earthy and grassy hops. An excellent bitter.

Bottle. Nice copper/red color, bright and fiery. Good white head, plenty of lacing. Smells of lightly sweet caramel and toffee, mildly burnt barley, and grassy, herbal hops, moderately spicy. Flavor is spicy, dry, not watery. Good caramel sweetness in moderation, just enough to balance, but the hops really add the flavor here, spicy, lightly fruity. Very drinkable. Medium body, light carbonation.

(500ml bottle) Pours a deep amber body and a creamy off-white head. The nose is mildly roasted malt. Not terribly bitter for an ESB, and I definitely prefer the draught, but this is a fairly solid beer. Caramel and toffee flavours expose themselves to the malt-willing, the hops join the ride but cover-up. I enjoy this for a change of pace and scenary but would not be able to make it a staple in my itinerary.

Bottle, Copper coloured beer with a thick white head, though this was probably as a result of careless pouring, as half of the head ended upon the table. Suprised that I hadn’t rated this easy to get beer. Aroma was quite malty and hoppy which to be honest transferered itself rather convieniently over to the taste, good tasting beer which has a nice balance, good bitterness and is very drinkable hops are present throughout.

An aroma like if you were in a sweaty lockerroom. A weak taste from toffee, and some bitterness. Could have been so much more...
