Dark coppery colored, little yellow head. Aroma is bitter-sweet with licorice, caramel and flowers. Medium bodied. Flavor has characteristic licorice and hops, caramel and some lemon come up also. Aftertaste is bitter and lemony, with some caramel. Good and balanced bitter.

Bottle @ Wit’s End in San Diego 8/10/06. Can’t say how it poured because I wasn’t offered a glass. This is a surprisingly good and complex brew. It has a lingering bitter after taste, but is quite refreshing.

Bottle from total wine. Amber pour. Aroma is very malty with some fruit and cookies. Flavor is overly malty and a mess IMO. Fail.

LIght but malty aroma. Copper coloured with minimal head but a light foam ring around the glass which leaves a light lacing. Not complex but a decent bitter. Nice malt flavour with a lightly hopped finish. For the same price stick with the ESB.

sligthly fruity aroma. subtle. looks good, clear with small head. quite full taste, but way too sweet, unexpectedly sweet. very drinkable though. Didn’t hit home with me, lots of hops would’ve helped.

Medium white head. Chestnut brown body. Thinnish caramelly aroma with light sweetish roasty notes, kind of fruity and peppery. Light sweet-yet-bitter caramelly wooden taste. Perfect dryish/fruity balance with lovely wooden edge. Clean palate, mid body. Dry wooden aftertaste with peppery hop notes. An excellent bitter, impressively well made. (0.5l bottle. Rated twice.)
