Medium white head. Chestnut brown body. Thinnish caramelly aroma with light sweetish roasty notes, kind of fruity and peppery. Light sweet-yet-bitter caramelly wooden taste. Perfect dryish/fruity balance with lovely wooden edge. Clean palate, mid body. Dry wooden aftertaste with peppery hop notes. An excellent bitter, impressively well made. (0.5l bottle. Rated twice.)

In the bottle. Delicious nutty and caramel flavor. Good full mouth flavor. I don’t get the buttery flavor that I do with the ESB version of this, but it has good bitterness.

(canned) Amber colour. Small white head. Simple grassy hops in aroma with toffee and sweet fruit. Toffee and caramel in flavour. Grassy finish. A bit thin.

Same dark color. Less body than the pulled version. Flavor of malt, not as smooth as from the cask. Still at the top of by list for the style.

Can marked as best by 13 Jun 09. Pours with a large, creamy, off-white head over a clear, deep golden body. Very good lace and near full retention. Aroma of caramel, cereal, honey, biscuit, raisin and light sherry. Taste is corn, butter, caramel, light bitterness, biscuit, cereal and wet hay. Hardly any carbonation, but a creamy mouthfeel.

Bottle. Amber beer (just a little darkish) with a nice white head. A little caramel in the aroma. Smooth sweet tofee/malt. Light hops giving just a hint of bitterness at the end. Very easy to drink.

Pours a clear dark orange color with a thin white head. Mild aroma of citrusy hops and malt. Decent flavor of hops, caramel and malt, there’s a fruity thing going too. It’s buttery too, diacetyl maybe ? Light body, creamy and oily texture, soft carbonation. Not bad but it’s kind of boring.

Very competent Pale Ale. Pours a nice amber color with a medium off-white head. Distinctly bitter hops aroma. Biting hops flavor with little malt to counteract, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It did seem slightly unbalanced though. I’d like to try this on draught some day. Overall though this is another winner from Fuller’s.
