on the pour:great colour,opaque gold,white head, huge lacing.The nose is mild..malt,fresh dough,and a tickle of sweetness.
On the taste:This is a mild beer.Sweet malt, caramel,a very background flavour of wood, the middle you can feel the hops coming on,still it is sweet.the finish is sweet unless you are very patient, the the hops finally come through to give it a nice dry finish.
Mild on the mouth, easy to drink, very good body for style,a real fine beer.

From the get-go, this beer smells ultra-buttery, almost like hot toast slathered in a tablespoon of butter. Flavor, though it also has a good caramel sweetness and a nice bitter dose of hops, is similarly dominated by butter, but the balance is such that it’s extremely pleasant and almost too drinkable, if that’s possible. Finishes with a well rounded bitterness. ABV not too strong, you could drink it all day if it weren’t so expensive. akinm (282), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jan 4, 2003 On tap: dark orange color. dense white head, withered away fairly quickly. the aroma is sweet and malty. the flavor is my favorite part, it is malty and very toffee like. a light hint of hops comes through but the toffee like malt is most definitely the winner here. Rich light tan head, long lasting and the body goes mostly through to the feel on the tongue. Great malty nose and flavor with those so British hops. I would love some on tap, in a Fullers pub, but this ain't bad. LoveCaissa (873), Copenhagen, Denmark

Nice and complex aroma with malts (nuts/toffee), fruit, and hops. Initial flavour is pleasant and malty followed by a fairly long and dry bitterness. All in all a fine beer albeit not as smooth as I would like. Guess I'll have to try it cask too!?! ;o) BuzzBeer99 (81), Oklahoma, USA

Just a slight hint of a bitter aftertaste. I have never had it in a bottle and would recommend, as with all great brit beers, try it on tap, preferreably in England.
