A nice change to the porters and strong ales i was busy drinking this weekend. It was a crystal clear amber that had a menacingly nice aroma upon opening the bottle. The taste was mildly bitter but a slight disappointment. Very little head and just not as much complexity as i would have expected from the Fuller’s name...good but not great beer.

Golden brown color, medium head. Nice malts, somewhat hoppy. Full flavor. Nice body. Mouthfeel is malty and round. Good hop/malt balance. Smooth. Finish is clean. Aftertaste is malty and bitter.

Original Rating, March 23, 2003: Nice and amber, no real head. Heavy on the apple and hops. A wonderful bitter. 7/4/7/4/17 Re-rating, April 1, 2009: Sigh... one of my very first ratings. And so pathetic. I will always leave my original ratings to serve as an example of how not to do this stuff. Copper color with a medium head. Solid aroma of grain and grass. Very dry, clean malt flavor. Grainy. Moderately bitter, focusing on earthy and grassy hops. An excellent bitter.

A light shade of copper for the colour with a thin (1 centimetre) tan head. The aroma is pretty nice, with a fairly strong hoppyness. Malt and some grassyness or mustyness is also noticable in the smell. The taste is another winner for Fuller's. Almost spot on for the style, it works out to a hoppy bitterness followed by a subtle maltyness. No other complex flavours are noticed either in the taste or palate, but I don't think it's a reason to complain. A pretty high alchol content for a bitter and it is noticable in the end with the bitterness. Pretty good beer, definately worth trying if you are a fan of the style! I bought this twelve ounce bottle at Whole Foods in Vienna, Virginia.

Bottle. Sour caramel malt aroma. Reddish amber with moderate head. Caramel malt and light citrus hops flavor - well blended. This bottle tastes a bit old but still very nice. Need to find the cask version.

Bottle from North Coast Coop in Eureka, CA. Poured a beautiful clear copper color wtih a medium white head that left good lacing. Nose of caramel and malts, with hops apparent. Mouthfeel very rich and flavor is malts and it has a fruty and bittter finish. A very nice brew.

500 ml bottle. Poured old copper colour, clear, with a moderate bubbly off white head. Head subsided soon leaving a ring of small bubbles and a spotty lacing. Aroma is of freshly baked bread with some lemony hops. Flavour of lightly roasted malt, a touch of nutty toffee, nicely balanced with fruity hops. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Lingering dry finish with mild fruity hop bitterness. Very, very good bitter, that begs for more. Bravo Fullers!

Pours a dark amber color with little head. There is a malty taste. Not as good as from the cask
