chris_o (4409), London, Greater London, England Feb 13, 2008 Cask (gravity dispense), St Albans Beer Festival, September 2007. I had missed this on its previous, occasional, appearances (it can be very difficult to establish where the Fullers occasional beers will be available and when) so was quite glad to get the opportunity to bag it here. Turned out to be pretty much what I expected. Mid copper colour. Nutty malt and sweetish fruit dominate. Mouthfeel is fairly fat and toffee accented. There are some earthy hops skulking around but they don’t really impose themselves assertively until the very last knockings. This leads to an undeniably Autumnal but rather too smooth (for my taste at least) overall experience. Worthy but short on excitement.
downender (1533), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England Nov 1, 2007 Cask-conditioned at the Cambridge, Bristol 31/10/07. Deep amber colour with a slight, off-white head. Honey malt aroma. Flavour was of caramel with a decent bitter finish. Good. FatPhil (2102), Espoo, Finland Oct 31, 2007 Updated: Nov 21, 2007Cask (Kitty’s, Helsinki) Oct 2007
Reddy orange. Nutty malty woody aroma. Huge brown bitter taste, slight coffe hints. Long drying bitter aftertaste. Excellent ESB.
Re-rate of (6-4-8-4-15=3.7): Cask (Gallows Bird, Espoo, Winter Ales 2004)
Dark, nutty and fruity. Quite similar to Young’s Special of yore (before that was emasculated). dnas2 (524), Yelverton, Devon., Devon, England Oct 21, 2007 Cask at The Wellington, Birmingham. Cloudy amber with no scent. Bitter with a sour aftertaste. Slight carbonation. Oily mouthfeel. Hoppy with some sugar and a nutty malt end. OK. Osmotic (2), England does not count Oct 10, 2007 Nutty, malty, warming, strong, gets you tipsy, not as good as HSB from Fullers but not a bad pint.
