bobinlondon (786), Harrow, Greater London, England Jul 6, 2009 Handpulled cask at the Churchill Arms, Kensington Church St. Dark brown/copper with an off white head. Predominately malty with less of the Fullers fruity house yeast characture than is usual. Reasonable hops come through in the finish. Ok. Jsawyer (282), Glenside, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 12, 2009 On cask. Poured chestnut with ruby-amber highlights and only a nominal white head. Aroma was mild nutty malt and licorice-raisin. flavor was licorice-raisin, mild nutty maltiness, slightly hoppy, pollen, and some alcohol. Palate was a little thin, but this beer was better than the chiswick although I regret not ordering an ESB. Tranquillity (1165), Espoo, Finland Mar 4, 2009 Druaght. Wonderful dark chestnut-cupper body with a thick small-bubbled off-white head. Full buttery, nutty and salty aroma. Taste mnild, but delicate. Thick on the palate. Extremely sophisticated and well-balanced. Beautiful. tlind2 (560), Helsinki, Finland Feb 24, 2009 Draught@Milenka, Helsinki. Amber color, off-white head. Woody hop aroma. Nice bitter flavor with cigar notes and a fairly dry finish. Medium-full body, medium carbonation. Sort of a light-weight version of Fuller’s ESB, pretty good. oh6gdx (8795), Vasa, Finland Dec 19, 2008 Cask in 2005, unsure if I had it in Stockholm or Helsinki, as this is between Stockholm marked notes and a Helsinki trip in the autumn 2005. Nutbrown colour with minor head. Aroma is yeast, hops as well as some mild nuts. Flavour is nuttyness as well as some grassy hops. Dry palate. Probably left unrated in the times, as my notes say Fullers Sir Harry and marked 5%... chriso (4666), London, Greater London, England Feb 13, 2008 Cask (gravity dispense), St Albans Beer Festival, September 2007. I had missed this on its previous, occasional, appearances (it can be very difficult to establish where the Fullers occasional beers will be available and when) so was quite glad to get the opportunity to bag it here. Turned out to be pretty much what I expected. Mid copper colour. Nutty malt and sweetish fruit dominate. Mouthfeel is fairly fat and toffee accented. There are some earthy hops skulking around but they don’t really impose themselves assertively until the very last knockings. This leads to an undeniably Autumnal but rather too smooth (for my taste at least) overall experience. Worthy but short on excitement.
downender (2528), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England Nov 1, 2007 Cask-conditioned at the Cambridge, Bristol 31/10/07. Deep amber colour with a slight, off-white head. Honey malt aroma. Flavour was of caramel with a decent bitter finish. Good. FatPhil (3443), Espoo, Finland Oct 31, 2007 Updated: Nov 21, 2007Cask (Kitty’s, Helsinki) Oct 2007
Reddy orange. Nutty malty woody aroma. Huge brown bitter taste, slight coffe hints. Long drying bitter aftertaste. Excellent ESB.
Re-rate of (6-4-8-4-15=3.7): Cask (Gallows Bird, Espoo, Winter Ales 2004)
Dark, nutty and fruity. Quite similar to Young’s Special of yore (before that was emasculated).
