(Bottle) Dark amber colour with frothy, beige head leaving traces of lacing. Malty, nutty nose with dark fruit, caramel, dark rye bread, orange peel and a hint of chocolate. Malty, nutty taste with toffee, chocolate, dark rye bread, dark fruit and a touch of orange and earthy hops in the finish. Lovely balance. Slightly above medium body, smooth mouthfeel, balanced sweetness. Nice beer. In short: toffee, nuts, chocolate and orange in harmony.

[Archive] Full, toffee aroma with a hint of fresh hops. Small head, dark copper colour. Not as sweet as I expected, nor as full bodied either. Doesn’t quite live up to the aroma.

Dark amber w/ light brown ring of foam. Sweet, spicy aroma of brown sugar & cinnamon w/ background of roasty malts. Sweet, syrupy feel. Well-balanced flavour w/ a bitter, peppery finish.

[1241-20080401] Tap. Toasted grains aroma has a bit of smoky malt. Clear, dark red amber body with a long-lasting creamy off-white head. Grainy alcoholic toasted malt flavour. Medium-full body seems undercarbonated. Excellent and drinkable.

Tasted 06/06/2008. 500ml bottle from Regional Wines and Spirits. Pours bright copper with an off-white disappearing head. Nice aroma of nutty malt, fruity tea and peppery herbs. Caramal and nutty malts carry an unexpectedly hoppy flavour - herbs, spice, and other things nice. A little old 200gsm papery note tells me the age. Long firmly bitter finish with lingering herbal note. Lollyish and bready malt notes come through later. Medium weight, light-medium carbonation. Really nice drop, pleasingly more bitter than I expected but just a little older and duller than I’d like it. I’m sure it is a cracker straight off cask.

50 cL bottle. Pours slight cloudy and deep amber with a lacing off-white head. Fruity and malt driven aroma. Flavour is roasted malt with a light acidic touch and a light toffee malt note. Fruity and bitter hoppy flavours following before a more breadish malt flavour re-conquers the palate. Ends medium dry and bitter. Nice and light malt spice English ale.

Draught at beerbistro. Pours a clear amber with an average size creamy off-white head -- looks nice. Slightly mild aroma is sweet & malty with a hint of nuts and fruit and some mild sugary sweetness. Flavour of caramel malt, fruit, light hops, a touch of alcohol and a light bitter finish. Medium bodied. Pretty good.
