[Archive] Full, toffee aroma with a hint of fresh hops. Small head, dark copper colour. Not as sweet as I expected, nor as full bodied either. Doesn’t quite live up to the aroma.

Dark amber w/ light brown ring of foam. Sweet, spicy aroma of brown sugar & cinnamon w/ background of roasty malts. Sweet, syrupy feel. Well-balanced flavour w/ a bitter, peppery finish.

[1241-20080401] Tap. Toasted grains aroma has a bit of smoky malt. Clear, dark red amber body with a long-lasting creamy off-white head. Grainy alcoholic toasted malt flavour. Medium-full body seems undercarbonated. Excellent and drinkable.

Tasted 06/06/2008. 500ml bottle from Regional Wines and Spirits. Pours bright copper with an off-white disappearing head. Nice aroma of nutty malt, fruity tea and peppery herbs. Caramal and nutty malts carry an unexpectedly hoppy flavour - herbs, spice, and other things nice. A little old 200gsm papery note tells me the age. Long firmly bitter finish with lingering herbal note. Lollyish and bready malt notes come through later. Medium weight, light-medium carbonation. Really nice drop, pleasingly more bitter than I expected but just a little older and duller than I’d like it. I’m sure it is a cracker straight off cask.
