DarkStar22769 (100), Ontario, Canada Jul 8, 2006 Bottle from the LCBO. I really, really wanted to like this but in the end I am left ambivalent about it. All four bottles blew up on me...you know the type, a large fizz as soon as the bottle is opened and it took nearly 10 minutes for the head to settle in a 25oz glass before I could pour the rest in. That being said, the aroma was malty sweet with nary a presence of hops. I really liked the appearance of the beer itself and I won’t lower marks due to the rambunctious head. Flavour-wise, I was underwhelmed with the maltiness. It’s sweet. I’ll give it that. Chalk me up as one who is not a fan of using honey as an adjunct. Cartoonkhaki (1149), Brantford, Ontario, Canada Jul 7, 2006 Light golden body with white head. Nice mellow aroma almost a faint honey comb aroma. Very clean palate with light hop background. Very refreshing for the summer. DerWeg (748), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 5, 2006 Surprisingly balanced, delicious ale with honey just supporting the ’good bones’ of the structure and not getting in the way one bit. The way it should be with unusually flavored beers, or should I say it kicks the ass of typical american honey lagers. I like the hops very much... Wow, it’s organic too? I’ve never met an organic veggie I did not like the taste of. Go Fullers, I’m buying more of this just because it’s organic AND tastes great. TipsyMcStager (900), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Jul 4, 2006 sweet aroma with some burnt toast. Pours a golden yellow, thin head. Some malt in there. Grassy and some sweetness. Refreshing, light finish. Not too bad. TheJester (694), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Jul 3, 2006 Bottle. Not as sweet as most Canadian (or Belgian) honey beers. Smells weakly of old gym shirt. Clear and golden. Seems fairly heavily carbonated. Nothing much going on initially, finishes light hops. A bit metallic going down. Average summer beer. pootzboy (1031), Hawgville, Ontario, Canada Jul 3, 2006 Updated: Sep 21, 2006500ml bottle poured a golden clear ale in the tankard with a 1 inch rocky cap that reduced to a surface lace.
Aromas of crystal malt, clover, soft spice and light wiffs of musty sweetness ( Honey?)
Medium bodied...Decent Carastan malt spine, creamy mouth feel, well rounded mellow character, very smooth delivery.
Up front we get a big whack of Crystal malts and light challenegr hop tastes which give a bread and spice impression...midway the honey is detectable but the hops keep it from cloying, then the finish is drying and malty with a light kiss of the honey acting as a sharp reminder there will be no bitter after taste . Far from being "sweet" this ale is smooth, malty balanced and extremely drinkable.
I take this brew as a second Fuller’s favorite next to their porter. It’s so drinkable and enjoyable I’d be tempted to make this a favored session ale but at 3.50 a 1/2 liter the price prohibits that.
MrManning (1634), London, Ontario, Canada Jul 2, 2006 Bottle from LCBO- Pours sparkling gold with lively bubbles and a foamy short lived white head. The nose is filled with mild grassy hops but does have some filler between the malts. SPicy honey sweetness with some crisp hoppy bite. Very subtle, but was pretty good as an up north fishing beer. Spritzy finish, with some hopping present in the finish. Summer beer for sure. Radek Kliber (3912), Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), Ontario, Canada Jun 28, 2006 Bottle. Pours gold with amber accents, medium white head on top. Pale malts with golden honey spread. Thin body with light bitter hop character sweeten with true like honey notes. Body was to light, perhaps at 15plato plus this composition would work better.
