Pours clear as anything, deep brown with a red tinge and a loose off white head that subsides quickly. Aroma is toasted grains, bread & fruit. Flavour is very nice, a lot more going on here that you might expect, toasted oats, bready & biscuity. Notes of fruit, yeast & somewhat apparent alcohol. Not much in the way of hops, but well balanced and a good beer. rauchbier (3004), Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, England
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 12, 2004 Bottle, from Sainsbury’s. Deep amber, good lasting white head and low condition. Good mix of caramel malt and hops in the nose, soft and malty sweet in the mouth with a vague suggestion of digestive biscuits, more caramel and gentle hoppiness. Caramel and pleasant hop bitterness in the finish

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 15, 2005 Bottle. Very nice toasty nose with hints of cinnamon and apple. Reddish (duh!) with a slightly thin but pleasant coloured head. Biscuity is correct, but a bit thin in a way. Not disappointing as such as it is well crafted and refreshing, but not as good as stablemates ESB or London Porter for example. Still, I haven’t had a bad Fullers beer - they’re my favourite pommy brewer. TheGrandMaster (1877), Auckland, New Zealand
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 25, 2007 Bottle, poured a darkish copper with an off-white bubbly head. Aroma was fruity and malty. A light smooth mouthfeel, warming malt flavours with a fruitiness in the background. Easy to drink and enjoyable. harrisoni (6946), Ashford, Kent, England

Brown sugar, raisins and toffee on the aroma, which I quite liked. Good hops as well. Toffee dominates throughout. Smooth i mouth with toffee hop on end. Fine, quite drinkable and I quite like Fullers bottled beers especially the stronger ones Kaya161 (1129), San Diego, California, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 28, 2004 Bottled. I had this beer some time ago, but my rating vanished. Oh, well - got to force another one down! Deep russett red in colour with a small off white head. Aromas are sweet and biscuity with some floral hops. Flavours are biscuit malts with nuts and berries - especially on the finish. Floral and ethereal on the finish with hints of ginger rather than especially dry or bitter. Not as good as I remembered it, but I was young(ish). JayBaxter (391), Greater Manchester, Greater Manchester, England
