ElGaucho (1721), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Feb 21, 2008 Draft at Acadia Cafe, Minneapolis. This is the second Furthermore brew I’ve had and the second one I’ve been impressed with. So much so that I’ve now had two in the last 3 days. Citrus/orange peel aroma. Hazy, murky dark orange body with a frothy head. Very interesting brew. Orange, hops and ginger. Pepper? I can see that, but I get more orange and ginger than pepper, although, before I knew the knot so secret ingredient was supposed to be pepper, I noted that it had a bit of a peppery harshness. Quite tasty and a pleasant surprise. I had it again tonight and initially thought it was less crisp and hoppy/peppery, but then realized I had just previously had a Town Hall Simcoe Ale which is nothing if it’s not extremely sharp, bitter and peppery. The initial creaminess of the Knot Stock gradually became sharper as my palate readjusted.
Jmichael (555), Asheville, North Carolina, USA Sep 8, 2008 cloudy hazy copper with mild white head, smooth mild aroma, dry pepper background with spritzy mouthfeel, strong in finish with a hidden fruity background. Strykzone (962), Wood River, Illinois, USA Sep 2, 2008 Tea color with a one finger orange / beige head that remains at about a quarter inch of thickness. Floral hop notes with grapefruit. Interesting to note this is more of a sweet beer than a tart one. Lots of spice including pepper. Caramel malt. A spiced up IPA. Interesting and enjoyable. Thaichile (597), 10aFly, New Jersey, USA Aug 29, 2008 Bottle. Pours a reddish orange with a nice light head aboard. Nose is IPAesque in its florality/hop profile with the addition of ground black pepper. The flavor is orange and flowers with light bitterness. The black pepper is in the back but I very pleasent sensation in the finish. This was really good. There is no heat from the pepper but the combination of the flavors was completely enjoyable. Thanks to stine for this one. edmedina (11), Chesterfield, Virginia, USA Jul 11, 2008 Pours a very cloudy amber color. The pour gave me 3 + fingers worth of head. The aroma is very sweet almost fruity. However, you can smell the black pepper. The taste is sweet, hint of grapefruit with the black pepper finishing everything off at the end. The mouthfeel is bitter but still hints of grapefruit. It starts off sweet but finishes bitter. I find that be delightful and really makes this one enjoyable. I think the black pepper really plays with the palate. Tripplebrew (254), Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA Jun 21, 2008 Pours a clear copper with thick cream-colored head that dissipates to a think cream layer. Aroma is spicy and peppery with definite hops aroma. Flavor is, shockingly, peppery with definite hop presence. Pepper comes out more in the end. First sip notes subtle sweet/caramel notes are present. Body is light with fair carbonation.
