harlequinn (2746), Tacoma, Washington, USA Aug 8, 2006 Much better than its predecessor. Sweet maltiness, with a flavor of fruit skins, dark fruits, but slightly weak and unbalanced.
spikester (407), Salem, Oregon, USA Aug 25, 2008 With some trepidation I popped the top on this 12 ounce bottle. (The best by date was 11-2006) No worries though, it poured dark brown with reddish highlights. The modest head was a light tan. Some lacings. Aroma was roast malt aroma.
Tasted coffee, cocoa, roasted malts and a bit of bitter hops. Very nice dunkel. Might have to try a fresher one sometime to compare my impressions. And at 4.5% abv it is definately sessionable. Wim (751), Turnhout, Belgium Aug 24, 2008 dark brown coloured body with a off white head a sweet roasted malty aroma a sweet malty fruity taste with a malty sweet finish Yves (423), Beerse, Belgium Aug 24, 2008 Dark brown coloured beer with small off-white head. Malty roasted aroma. Full bit creamy palate. Finish is bitter and roasted. Bart (1364), Vosselaar, Belgium Aug 24, 2008 Darker brown coloured beer with little carbonation and an average off-white head. Light malty light roasted sweet touched. Medium palate. Finish is light sweet malty with some wattery sweeter light roasted touches. Light, little taste. Muggus69 (206), Sydney, Australia Aug 16, 2008 330ml bottle, BB 10 2007...luckily it was a freebie! Dark brown body with ruby highlights, small persistant offwhite head atop. Roasted malt nose, nuts, toffee, dark chocolate, brown sugar with a bit of dried fruit in there for good measure. Reasonably lean body, creamy carbonation, smooth texture, drying but not as much as you would expect from a beer of this colour. Smooth body packed full of delicous malt flavours nut and chocolate seem prominant, has a slight toffee sweetness, with hints of prunes, bread and coffee. Finish is quite abrupt, not overly bitter. Particularly nice and approachable dark beer.
