Commercial Description:
The laws protecting the brewing of kolsch are as strict as the German Purity Law of 1516. Kolsch beer can only be brewed within the city of Cologne. As the best-known kolsch brewery, Gaffel's flavor is derived from an ale yeast that is "lagered" (or aged) in cold cellars. Gaffel is pale, faintly fruity with a crisp, hop finish. Enjoy as an aperitif or digestif.

Decent Kolsch lager. Had it with some Korean BBQ. Not the best pairing but the crispness in the follow through helped to clear some of the spices. Slight "fruity" taste as the label suggests. Certainly better than a Heineken.

Clear golden colored brew. Light aroma and flavor. Hoppy, crisp, a bit spicy. Nice brew, but avarage.

A Mes rate: Gravity serving at Zeitgeist.
Very clean gold with a thin white head. Lovely and clean with a good malt and hop balance and some slight tobacco leaves. Fresh and very drinkable.

Bottle. Both flavor and aroma are mild, but that is a strength in this nicely crafted, drinkable beer. Small white head. Medium yellow, clear body. The aroma is malty with grain and straw and hoppy with grass and flowers. The flavor is lightly to moderately sweet and lightly bitter. Fair thin body with a water texture and lively carbonation. Balanced finish between sweet and bitter, though both are fairly light. Enjoyable.

Savannah, Ga. - Habersham Beverage Warehouse, 500 ml bottle. Pours a light, sparkling golden - wispy white head - quickly dissipating. Neutral aroma, very, very faint spiciness. Flavor is very muted. Some buttery notes, a touch of grain and some faint spices - grains of paradise perhaps. Mouthfeel is clean and refreshing. Smooth drinking, just not all that flavorful and bold.

Bottle. Pale yellow with small white head. Very much carbonation almost like watching a champagne, the bottle goes on and on. Fresh grassy aroma. Taste fresh and a little hopps. A very light beer, but I probably did it wrong by drinking coffee before I had it. Might be a nice choice on a hot summerday.
