Commercial Description:
The laws protecting the brewing of kolsch are as strict as the German Purity Law of 1516. Kolsch beer can only be brewed within the city of Cologne. As the best-known kolsch brewery, Gaffel's flavor is derived from an ale yeast that is "lagered" (or aged) in cold cellars. Gaffel is pale, faintly fruity with a crisp, hop finish. Enjoy as an aperitif or digestif.

Cask at Zeitgeist @ The Jolly Gardener. Aroma of cream, spice and vanilla. Tasty but lots of minerals and metal distract in the finish. Still nice.

Pours clear light golden color with big white head. Aroma is lightly hoppy and grassy. Flavor is slighyl sweet and fruity with a metallic after taste. Not much complexity, kind of boring. Light body, very thin mouthfeel and fizzy carbonation.

Bottled @ Tortula, Sao Paulo. A golden beer with a tall white head. Aroma is malty and grassy, with citric notes. Taste is malty and fruity, mild sweet. Soft mouthfeel. Bitter end. A good Kolsch.

12oz bottle, purchased relatively fresh from a new beer store. Pours a clear, light yellow color; fluffy, bright white head with excellent retention and medium-bubbled lacing. Crisp, clean aroma: minerals and citrus; a touch of dishsoap. Lively carbonation. Medium mouthfeel: dull citrus, minerals, and a touch of sugar; good presence in the mouth; just a touch boring, with scattered bitterness. Light-to-medium finish: citrus, minerals, and a touch of bread; ends dry.

Pours a clear yellow with a soapy white head. Poor lacing and aroma-some yeast. Crisp and mildly hoppy as described. Overly carbonated. Not worth the price.

Pours with a very thin, frothy, white head. Body is a fizzy, clear yellow. Head lasts about 1 minite 30 seconds before reverting to just a ring. Slightly fruity smelling lager with grassy hops. Watery and grassy till the end which is a bit metallic. Watery and fizzy mouthfeel. Not bad, but overall quite boring.
