Commercial Description:
The laws protecting the brewing of kolsch are as strict as the German Purity Law of 1516. Kolsch beer can only be brewed within the city of Cologne. As the best-known kolsch brewery, Gaffel's flavor is derived from an ale yeast that is "lagered" (or aged) in cold cellars. Gaffel is pale, faintly fruity with a crisp, hop finish. Enjoy as an aperitif or digestif.

Bottle - I’ve begun to really enjoy Kolsch this summer. Poured a clear golden color with big white head. A crisp malty beer with a sharp finish. Slight amout of fruit present. Very enjoyabe.

Bottle purchased at BOTW. Not sure how old this is. Pour is a crystal clear gold with a thin lacy head of tight white bubbles. Aroma is sweet and malty, but I’m not detecting any hops or bitterness. The flavor is similar with plenty of mild sweetness but nothing cleansing, bitter or citric. I wonder if this six-pack is just too old and all the hops have faded. Disappointing.

Yeasty aroma. Color is gold. White head. Has a metallic aftertaste. Doesn’t last long on palate, but stays in your nose. Not one of the best German beers, but for the price- not too bad. I taste steel.

Bottle. Pale lager color with small head. Sweet aroma of malt with fair amount of hops. Taste is sweet/fruity with slightly earthy undertone. Nice soft palate typical of a Kolsch. Tastes much better on tap.

16.9 oz bottle. Golden color with a fluffy white head. Aroma is grainy, with some yeast flavor to it. Flowery as well. Flavor is a little dry, and does not leave a really nasty aftertaste, which is always a plus.

Tap at Laschet’s. A bit tinny, though quite fruity and tasty. A touch dry with a diminished head. okay.

0.4 L draft at Loreley, in NYC. My first Kolsch, so not much to compare to. No lingering head, crisp grain, a little dry and tasty.

12oz bottle pours golden with a fluffy white head that stays briefly. Aromas of crisp grains, and some grassy hops. Flavor is mostly grainy with a slight yeast presence and some nice grassy hops at the finish. Light crisp clean and very refreshing. Not bad at all on a hot summer day!
