Commercial Description:
The laws protecting the brewing of kolsch are as strict as the German Purity Law of 1516. Kolsch beer can only be brewed within the city of Cologne. As the best-known kolsch brewery, Gaffel's flavor is derived from an ale yeast that is "lagered" (or aged) in cold cellars. Gaffel is pale, faintly fruity with a crisp, hop finish. Enjoy as an aperitif or digestif.

(bottle 50cl.) Pours golden with white head. Nice fresh flavour with pleaant hop finish. Light body but a nice highly drinkable kölsch.

Bottle. Pours a gold color w/ a light white head. Kind of skunky and malty on the aroma. Nominal hops. Light bodied and finished easily, which were its greatest strengths. Taste, it was mediocre.

Bottle from Beer Geek. Pours hazy gold with a three finger fluffy, bubbly white head. Noble hop aromas. Not quite medium body. Carbonation is mild. Flavor is thinnish. A light ale with nobel/grassy/floral/fruity (did I leave something out?) hop. Refreshing. Think it really fits the style.

Pours a typical clear straw yellow with a thin white head. Aroma is malty and slightly fruity. Flavor is rather wan, crisp and malty. Texture is watery and thin, just a little tingly. It leaves a thin finish that is slightly bitter but not in a good way.

Draught at Papa Joe’s Biersalon, Köln, Germany. Clear golden colour with small white head. Malty aroma with hints of hoppiness. Flavour is strange combination of sweetness, alcohol, cardboard and burned malt. Not real maltiness nor hoppiness in flavour. Not my favourite Kölsch.

Pours amber with a medium sized white long lasting head. Aroma of cereals and herbal hops. Malty flavor with a rather dominating harsh bitterness with a slightly spicy off-flavor. Interesting beer but a bit too chaotic and unbalanced flavor and mouthfeel.

I have never seen this beer, but now that I live in New York, it is in virtually every bar. Got this beer as a free sample in a Gowanus Yacht Club. Pours a orange/yellow color without much in the way of head. Not very complex aroma or taste, but smooth and slightly sweet. Very easy to drink ten of these if you cared to.

Had this beer on tap at the Big Hunt. I thought it was very good for a german kolsch, sweet and smooth with a silky mouthfeel. Very pleasant.
