Commercial Description:
The laws protecting the brewing of kolsch are as strict as the German Purity Law of 1516. Kolsch beer can only be brewed within the city of Cologne. As the best-known kolsch brewery, Gaffel's flavor is derived from an ale yeast that is "lagered" (or aged) in cold cellars. Gaffel is pale, faintly fruity with a crisp, hop finish. Enjoy as an aperitif or digestif.

Bad to mediocre beer. Golden color with minimal head. Perhaps this is the best-known kolsch brewery, but that doens’t make it the best by a long shot.

Pours hazy yellow, white head. Aroma and taste are floral, average hops. Light body. Decent stuff.

Grassy and funky smelling. Pale yellow/gold color. No head. This is imported by a Florida company and is a great example of why Florida sucks enormous amounts of rooster name. Watery, not even any carbonation bite much less hop just some mild sweetness. If this is the best loved of Kolsch brewers in Cologne why is it the worst I have ever had?

BEERYEAR beer #5 of 365. Pours gold with almost no head. No effervescence, no lacing. Dry aroma, with light malt notes and a very light fruitiness. Flavor is nutty and slightly fruity. Dry finish. A so-so example of a so-so style. And that’s a no-no.

(bottle) Pale yellow body with a medium foamy white head. Dusty malty nose with herbal hops. Initially malty with hints of nuts and a fruity note and a dry quite bitter and hoppy finish for the style.

On draught: Pale yellow, medium sized, firm white head; initial floral, grassy hoppiness in the aroma, but also traces of malt; the malty taste dominates, a bit fuller bodied as other examples of this style; becomes fruitier and a bit sourish towards the end, slightly bitterness in the aftertaste. O.K.

Hazy blond color. Quite simple beer, with some light maltiness and a decent bitterness.

Bright gold body with a dense head. Aroma has old cheddar cheese and a hint of ammonia. There is also grass and some cow maure. The taste has over ripe pears and some grassy bitterness. Funny enough, it does finish cleanly.
