Commercial Description:
The laws protecting the brewing of kolsch are as strict as the German Purity Law of 1516. Kolsch beer can only be brewed within the city of Cologne. As the best-known kolsch brewery, Gaffel's flavor is derived from an ale yeast that is "lagered" (or aged) in cold cellars. Gaffel is pale, faintly fruity with a crisp, hop finish. Enjoy as an aperitif or digestif.

[can] Crisp malt, that is not grainy. More hoppy than expected. Other than that, typical Kölsch.

Draft at a random pub in Koln. Light golden color, decent white head on there. Grainy nose and moderate, crisp bitterness in flavor, lightly bitter aftertaste.

on tap at the Rake. Touch of fruity feet on the nose...looks pretty crap in the glass, no head. Tastes good though once you get past the feet, malty and nutty with a dry finish. probably one of the better kolsch’s i’ve tasted....almost as good as Greig’s!

pint, at Tyler’s in Apex. Ok aroma, sour, yeast, corn, apple. Clean yellowy golden color, Little to no head, minor lace. Bitter flavor, like aroma with cardboard. Lite body, thin watery mouthfeel, dry finish. Easy to drink no real outstanding points.Did what it was suppose to do.

12 oz. bottle. Faint metallic smell with a touch of skunk and bittering hops in the aroma. Pours a pale gold with a solid white head. Medium high carbonation with a crisp, dry taste. The hops are forward and bring a solid bitter note to the beer. The malt taste is pretty light and mostly consists of grain. As the beer warms, the light malt sweetness emerges more. Overall a refreshing Kolsch, just a little predictable.

Pours clean yellow with a froathy white head, what diminishes quickly to a small lacing one. Interesting lager-characteristic aroma of malt, some sourish yeast and a little corn. Medium bodied beer with the taste of some unique malt, some grassy hop. My first kölsch-style beer...

Pours straw yellow with a grassy aroma. Nice hoppy/würzig flavour. Quite large head. Nothing spectacular.

12 oz bottle. Pours pale yellow with a fizzy white head. Smels of grains and corn. Tastes malty sweet, corny, and grassy hops. Pretty good.
